  • Patent number: 8972205
Abstract: The present invention provides, inter alia, methods of characterizing a small molecule organic material, e.g., a drug or a drug product. This method includes subjecting the solid small molecule organic material to x-ray total scattering analysis at a short wavelength, collecting data generated thereby, and mathematically transforming the data to provide a refined set of data.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 2, 2011
Date of Patent: March 3, 2015
Assignee: The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York
Inventors: Simon Billinge, Kenneth Shankland, Norman Shankland, Alastair Florence
  • Patent number: 8921783
Abstract: A method of using electron diffraction to obtain PDFs from crystalline, nanocrystalline, and amorphous inorganic, organic, and organometallic compound.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 21, 2014
Date of Patent: December 30, 2014
Assignee: The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York
Inventors: Simon Billinge, Christopher Farrow, Tatiana E. Gorelik, Mercouri Kanatzidis, Martin U. Schmidt

  • Publication number: 20140114602
Abstract: The disclosed subject matter relates, inter alia, to improved devices, systems and methods for processing raw data collected from X-ray total scattering analysis of a material, which may be solid, liquid, in suspension, or in solution. This devices, systems and methods described are advantageous because they drastically reduce the amount of user interaction required to compute a PDF from diffraction data, reduce the computing time necessary to compute the PDF, and allows for automated, on-the-fly computation of PDFs without significant degradation of the PDF quality and little input from the user.

Applicant: The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York
Inventors: Simon Billinge, Christopher Farrow, Timur Dykhne, Pavol Juhas
  • Publication number: 20130309645
Abstract: A peer instruction network comprising a scalable, web-based university combining peer instruction, social networking technologies and conventional university courses to provide a rich and scalable learning platform for a virtual university of the 21st century.
