  • Publication number: 20040064134
Abstract: An expandable apparatus for use with a surgical probe having a temperature-controlled portion includes at least one thermally-conductive elongated extension member and means for thermally connecting and attaching the extension member to the surgical probe. The expandable apparatus further includes means for attaching and moving the extension member between a closed configuration in which the extension member is substantially parallel to the surgical probe and an open configuration in which the extension member extends radially outward from the surgical probe. A method of using the expandable apparatus to ablate tissue that line a body cavity is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20040002665
Abstract: Impression devices are provided for making an impression of a desired feature. The impression devices include: a flexible bladder having a cavity formed therein, the flexible bladder being capable of conforming to the details of the desired feature; a rheological material, such as a magnetorheological fluid, disposed in the cavity of the flexible bladder; and an activator for applying an external stimulus to the rheological material to change the state of the rheological material and thereby capture an impression of the desired feature.

  • Publication number: 20030233111
Abstract: An arthroscopic bone burr having an articulated sheath tube. The sheath tube may be articulated angularly and transversely relative to the housing by a ball-type joint, a flange-in-socket joint with sufficient play to permit displacement of the sheath tube, or by use of an elastomer. Anti-rotation means are provided to prevent the sheath tube from rotating relative to the housing.

  • Patent number: 6626925
Abstract: A shielded surgical scalpel includes an elongate handle defining a longitudinal axis and having a proximal portion and a distal portion. A blade is fixedly attached to the handle. A shield is mounted onto the handle. The shield is movable between a distal position where the shield prevents inadvertent access to the blade and a proximal position where the shield exposes the blade for use.

  • Patent number: 6623482
Abstract: A surgical instrument useful in harvesting blood vessels such as veins and arteries and for manipulating and grasping tissue. The instrument has a pair of jaws and a closing tube to open and close the jaws. One of the jaws is preferably movable between the open and closed positions and has an insert for providing lateral strength and stiffness while providing the flexibility necessary to open and close the jaws.
