  • Publication number: 20060175256
Abstract: A process for combined ozone degradation and filtration using a multi-layered, nanocrystalline, sintered ceramic, metal oxide catalyst and ceramic membrane filter is described. The process reduces fouling of the membrane and degrades ozone remaining in the water from ozonation of water to kill microorganisms.

  • Publication number: 20060016608
Abstract: Apparatus 11 for rapid discharge of one or more fire extinguishing agent(s) comprises a sealed container 13 forming an interior volume 15 in communication with a rapidly opening valve assembly 17. The interior volume contains fire extinguishing agent(s), super-pressurised by a gas such as nitrogen. A portion of the nitrogen is dissolved into the fire extinguishing agent(s). When an incident is detected which requires the discharge of the fire extinguishing agent(s) the valve 17 is opened. Opening the valve 17 causes rapid dissolution of the nitrogen from the fire extinguishing agent(s), forming a two-phase mixture (like a foam or mousse) which substantially fills the volume 15 and causing the discharge of fire extinguishing agent(s) from the valve assembly 17.

  • Publication number: 20050173131
Abstract: A fire and explosion suppression system comprises a source (5) of high pressure water which is fed to a misting nozzle (13) at one input of a mixing unit (6), and a source (14) of high pressure inert gas, such as nitrogen, which is fed along a pipe (20) to another input of the mixing unit (6). Inside the mixing unit (6), water mist, in the form of an atomised mist of very small droplet size is mixed with the pressurised gas and exits the mixing unit (6) at high pressure and high velocity along a pipe (22) and is thence discharged through spreaders (26, 28). The source (5) of the water is pressurised by a feed (30) from the source of pressurised inert gas. The mass flow rate of the water will therefore reduce as the pressure of the gas decays. This tends to maintain the ratio of the mass flow rate of the water to the mass flow rate of the gas constant. This is found to produce and maintain an advantageous distribution of droplet size in the discharged unit.

  • Patent number: 6539020
Abstract: A bridge device (4) for connecting a plurality of communication networks (1-3) around which data is transmitted in frames which include control information defining at least the identity of a destination for data in the frame, each network having at least one end station (8-12). The bridge device comprises a corresponding plurality of data coupling units (13,14) for connection to respective ones of the networks (1-3), each data coupling unit including receive (13) and transmit (14) interfaces for respectively receiving data from and transmitting data onto the connected network. A common store (17) is connected to all the data coupling units for receiving data being transmitted from one network to another.

  • Patent number: 6370035
Abstract: An electronic circuit pack having a printed circuit board with a faceplate at a front of the board. The faceplate has two end regions carrying latches for holding the board into a shelf. A front wall of the faceplate has an intermediate part between the end regions, the intermediate part extending forwardly of the end regions and lying at least between the latches. Preferably, the intermediate part of the front wall extends as far as a frontal vertical plane of the shelf which is the foremost position allowable for a shelf and a circuit board combination. The intermediate part of the front wall lying in this forward position provides additional space behind it for extending the electronic circuitry of the circuit pack for a unitary shelf size. This additional space is occupied by the printed circuit board with conductors and electronic components and/or connectors for test purposes and memory cards.

  • Patent number: 6113672
Abstract: The strongly adsorbed component of a gas mixture is produced in enhanced purity and yield by novel PSA cycles. The basic steps of the cycles include an adsorption vessel prepressurization step, a cocurrent nonadsorbed gas production step, a cocurrent purge step with strongly adsorbed gas product and a countercurrent depressurization step which produces the strongly adsorbed gas product that is used in the cocurrent purge step. In addition to the basic steps, a first depressurization equalization step precedes or follows the cocurrent purge step and a corresponding first pressurization equalization step follows the countercurrent depressurization step. The cycle optionally includes one or two depressurization equalization steps before the cocurrent purge step and one or two corresponding pressurization equalization steps after the first pressurization equalization step.

  • Patent number: 6083299
Abstract: A high pressure purge is incorporated into the cycle of a PSA process designed for the recovery of strongly adsorbed product gas from a gas mixture. The high pressure purge stream is obtained by compressing the low pressure cocurrent purge step that precedes the countercurrent depressurization or evacuation step. The high pressure purge step is included in the cycle following the adsorption step of the process.

  • Patent number: 5678423
Abstract: A method for the recovery of volatile organic components (VOC) released when loading liquid hydrocarbons into a storage or cargo tank, is described. The VOCs issuing from the tank are compressed, and injected into a sidestream taken from the main hydrocarbon stream, which is cooled and used as the absorbing medium, and is conducted to a VOC recovery unit comprising at least a bi-phase rotary separator turbine (BRST). In the BRST the VOC-containing gas is substantially separated into a VOC component and inert gas. The inert gas is vented to the atmosphere. The VOC component or VOC-enriched liquid stream is then returned to the main cargo stream or a cargo tank. Any methane contained in the volatile gases issuing from the cargo tank, instead of being vented to the atmosphere, is recovered or a catalytic process is used to convert methane to carbon dioxide and water for discharge to the atmosphere. The system is particularly intended for the offshore loading of oil into tankers.
