Abstract: A monitoring system is configured to monitor an environment within an enclosure of a heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and/or refrigeration (HVAC&R) system. The monitoring system includes a sensor configured to acquire data indicative of an environmental parameter value within the enclosure. The monitoring system also includes a controller configured to receive the data from the sensor, to determine occurrence of a thermal event within the enclosure based on the data, and to instruct a circuit breaker of the HVAC&R system to transition to a fault configuration in response to determining the occurrence of the thermal event.

Abstract: A portable breathing apparatus for oxygen enrichment of breathable air comprises: an adsorption vessel; an air compressor for pumping air into the adsorption vessel; a valve for purging pressure from the adsorption vessel; an adsorbent disposed within the adsorption vessel adsorbing a non-oxygen constituent of air when the vessel is pressurized, thereby producing oxygen-enriched air, and desorbing the non-oxygen constituent when the pressure is purged.

Abstract: An improved volatility index and related derivatives contracts are provided. An index in accordance with the principals of the present invention estimates expected volatility from the prices of stock options in a wide range of strike prices. Also, an index in accordance with the principals of the present invention is calculated from a price dragging methodology to derive expected volatility. In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, derivative contracts such as futures and options based on the volatility index of the present invention are provided.

Abstract: Embodiments of a battery charger and methods for operating same are disclosed. The charger has a plurality of charging pins, and a device to be charged may be plugged into the charger in multiple orientations. The charger detects the device's orientation and sets the states of its charging pins appropriately to charge the device. Optionally, the charger may have additional pins, likewise settable according to a device's orientation, for supplying power and/or communications to the device during charging.

The present continuous furnace treatment process employs a plurality of zones with each zone including an oxygen-free controlled gas atmosphere including hydrogen gas in concentrations between about 1.0 percent to 10.0 percent that varies across the different zones, a hydrocarbon gas, such as propylene, in concentrations of between about 0.1 percent and 10.0 percent that varies across the different zones, with the balance of the gas atmosphere within each zone being nitrogen.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for managing database servers and services is disclosed, which expands the capabilities of existing systems by providing better scalability and security. A database management system includes databases consisting of database clients and servers that handle the storing of information, a multi-database client that manages database servers, service modules which allow other systems to access the database servers, and a database access manager that manages requests from the service modules. A database access manager facilitates and coordinates interaction between the service modules and the multi-database client. Service modules provide interfaces from which other external or internal systems can access the managed databases. Requests can be sent between systems and the database access manager via the service modules. Two present and representative implementations of service modules are: user management and call detail record (CDR) collection.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product that provides voice over the Internet communication. A Voice over the Internet (VoIP) system includes a gateway server that handles calls received from a public switched telephone network and a packet-switched network, a routing server, and a database server. Messages can be sent between the gateway server, routing server, and database server over the packet-switched network. A provisioning system is coupled to the database server. A management system is also coupled to the gateway server, routing server, database server, and management system over the packet-switched network. A network manager automatically queries a client database to determine an update, and sends a message representative of the update to at least one of the gateway server, routing server, database server, and management system over the packet-switched network. A licensing server supports licensing of the VoIP system.

Abstract: A computer system includes a CPU and VGA/LCD controller interacting with a main system memory for processing input data and displaying it on an LCD panel screen that includes a plurality of row and column drive chips on the panel. Each column drive chip includes a panel driver memory and panel driver control logic. A frame rate modulated grey-scale data signal is fed from the processor and VGA/LCD controller to the panel driver memory. Timing signals, including horizontal and vertical clocks, and data shift signals, are fed to the panel driver control circuit to control the panel driver memory from which data is read out for display on the LCD panel screen. Upon detection of the absence of screen update information for two full frame periods the system enters a power down mode by re-mapping the grey-scale data to black-and-white data, stopping the data shift clock, and disabling portions of the VGA/LCD controller and its sequencer so that the latter enters a screen off mode.
