Patent number: 11540376Abstract: A device for determining a type of a power source for powering a LED lighting unit, wherein one possible type comprises a ballast originally designed for a high intensity discharge lamp and repurposed for use with an LED lighting unit. The power source type determiner monitors at least one electrical parameter of either a load or the power source itself after a power drawn by the load whose characteristic is set to a critical value. A value of the electrical parameter is used to identify a type of the power source. A value of the electrical parameter is the pulse generated by the traditional ballast for gas discharge lamp, which pulse is detected to determine the type of the power source.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2020Date of Patent: December 27, 2022Assignee: SIGNIFY HOLDING B.V.Inventors: Dmytro Viktorovych Malyna, Jie Fu, Raimundo De Heer Galisteo, Zhiquan Chen, Marcus Cornelis Van Meel, Simon Jacobus Maria Kuppens, Yuanqiang Liu, Shiguang Sun, Fan Zheng, Paul Robert Veldman, Gang Wang

Publication number: 20100014839Abstract: The present invention relates to a lighting assembly (100) for providing cooling of a light source (101), the lighting assembly (100) comprising a heat sink (102) comprising a phase change material for dissipating heat generated by the light source (101), means (106) for active cooling of the heat sink (102), and means (105) for activating the active cooling means when the light source is switched off. The lighting assembly according to the present invention minimizes the necessary off period between two on periods when the light source is switched on consecutively multiple times. At the same time, the present invention provides a quiet and vibration free cooling of the light source during the on period of the light source, and subsequently boosts the dissipation of heat received by the heat sink comprised with the phase change material when the light source is switched off. The present invention also relates to a corresponding method for providing cooling of a light source for a lighting assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2007Publication date: January 21, 2010Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V.Inventors: Daniel J. Publication number: 20080310152Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a lighting system comprising LED modules (10, 20), arranged adjacent to each other, preferably in a matrix configuration. By introducing light apertures (101) between two or several adjacent modules, each comprising a mixing chamber (11, 21), light is transmitted sideways between the mixing chambers of the adjacent modules, whereby the perceived lighting from the associated module windows is equalized. Hence, the invention facilitates an homogenization of perceived illumination without the need for an electronic control system.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 23, 2005Publication date: December 18, 2008Applicant: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS, N.V.Inventors: Stefan Marcus Verbrugh, Nicola Bettina Pfeffer, Simon Jacobus Maria Kuppens
