  • Patent number: 10019038
Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with upper and lower housing portions that are separated by a gap. Hinge structures may allow the upper housing portion to rotate between a closed position and an open position. A flexible printed circuit in the electronic device may be coupled between components in the upper housing portion such as the display and components in the lower housing portion and may span the gap. A hinge gap cover may cover the gap and may overlap the flexible printed circuit to block the flexible printed circuit from view when the upper housing portion is in the closed position. The hinge gap cover may be formed from a layer of radio-transparent material that is rotatably coupled to the upper housing portion and that is biased towards the lower housing with a spring structure.

  • Patent number: 8892238
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for shaping an edge at a juncture of two adjoining surfaces of a part. A first surface and a second surface of the part are abraded by contacting a polishing surface of a polishing wheel to the first surface and to the second surface. The polishing surface spins in opposite rotational directions about an axis parallel to the edge when contacting the first and second surfaces respectively. The polishing surface moves at different translational speeds and the polishing wheel spins at different rotational speeds along straight segments and along curved segments of the edge. The shaped edge has a visually smooth and geometrically uniform appearance.

  • Patent number: 8526705
Abstract: Methods and systems for accurately determining dimensional accuracy of a complex three dimensional shape are disclosed. The invention in one respect includes determining at least a non-critical feature and at least a critical feature of the 3-D component, determining a first datum using at least the non-critical feature, aligning the first datum to at least a portion of a reference shape, determining a second datum corresponding to the critical feature subsequent to the aligning, and determining the dimensional accuracy of the 3-D component by comparing the second datum to another portion of the reference shape.

  • Publication number: 20130225050
Abstract: An apparatus for lapping a portion of an exterior surface of a housing is described. The apparatus includes at least a lapping tool arranged to execute a lapping operation. The lapping tool takes the form of a lapping pad which includes a conduit through which slurry can be transported for local deposition on the housing during a lapping operation. The apparatus also includes a stage on which a workpiece in the form of a housing is mounted. During the lapping operation, slurry is passed through the slurry conduit in the lapping tool, the lapping tool and the housing are moved in various motions. In this way, a gradual transition region is created between an accessory region and the remainder of the housing.

  • Publication number: 20110081839
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for polishing a curved edge of a molded part. A surface of the curved edge is abraded by contacting a polishing surface of a first polishing wheel to the curved edge repeatedly in a first direction concurrent with a rotational spinning direction of the first polishing wheel. The abraded surface of the curved edge is polished by contacting a polishing surface of a second polishing wheel to the curved edge in the first direction and in a second direction opposite to the first direction. The polishing surfaces of the first and second polishing wheels are shaped to conform to a portion of the surface of the curved edge of the molded part. The polishing wheel is maintained at a constant rotational speed by a controller when contacting the curved edge. The polished surface of the curved edge is visually smoothly uniform in reflective appearance.
