  • Patent number: 9742335
Abstract: A multi-phase electric motor is proposed that comprises a rotor and a stator. The rotor has a number of magnets directed towards the stator and the stator includes a plurality of phase windings directed towards the magnets. The phase windings are connected to control units that are adapted to selectively apply a current to the phase windings to induce an electromagnetic force which acts upon the magnets to effect a rotation of the rotor. The motor comprises at least two control units, each being configured to control the supply of current to three phase windings such that a different phase current is supplied to each of the three phase windings with a phase shift between said different phase currents being 120°, and wherein no two control units utilize the same current phase.
