    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for controlling the escape of aerosols generated from the operation of a flow cytometer. Such aerosols may contain, for example, infectious agents that may pose a safety risk to the operator of the flow cytometer. The apparatus of the invention comprises a biological safety cabinet coupled with a means for producing air flow and filtration. The apparatus of the invention is designed to fit onto the face of a flow cytometer, thereby preventing the escape of aerosols.
