Abstract: A single-use sleep aid includes a disposable gel storage and delivery device with a collapsible chamber and a delivery portion having a manually severable section for permanent unsealing. The chamber contains a single dose of 10–50 grams of gel with a viscosity of 600–1000 mPa·s at 25 °C. The gel includes diphenhydramine hydrochloride sleep aid (0.046–0.32 wt%), high methoxyl slow-set pectin (0.25–1.5 wt%) as a bioavailability enhancer and slow-release agent, Prunus cerasus extract (0.25–1.25 wt%) including a melatonin precursor, citric acid pectin activator (0.05–0.5 wt%) , honey (75–95 wt%), glycerin preservative (0.5–2.5 wt%), and ascorbic acid antioxidant and preservative (0.05–0.5 wt%). The collapsible chamber transitions from a first internal volume to a smaller second volume as the gel is delivered to the user’s mouth.
