  • Patent number: 7475236
Abstract: A method for ensuring a correct sub-system BIOS for a specified system checks whether first identifying information associated with a system BIOS of the specified system is consistent with second identifying information associated with the sub-system BIOS upon initialization of the specified system. While a normal boot-up sequence is performed when the first identifying information is consistent with the second identifying information, a simplified boot-up sequence is performed to inform of incorrect sub-system BIOS when the first identifying information is inconsistent with the second identifying information. Following the second boot-up sequence, a warning message is given and then the specified system is halted.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 26, 2005
Date of Patent: January 6, 2009
    Assignee: VIA Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Ata Chen, Macalas Yen, Simon Pu
  • Patent number: 7093117
Abstract: A method for a drive device to get control data from a basic input/output system (BIOS) includes the following steps. Firstly, an index zone is automatically provided according to a specified version of the BIOS for storing an index of control data associated with the specified version of the BIOS. Then, the drive device gets the control data associated with the specified version of the BIOS from the BIOS according to the index.

  • Publication number: 20030217253
Abstract: A method for determining the compatibility between a basic input/output system (BIOS) and a specified system is disclosed. The method includes the steps of reading a first identifying information from the BIOS and a second identifying information from the specified system, and comparing the first identifying information with the second identifying information, and outputting a warning information when the first and second identifying information do not match with each other.

  • Publication number: 20030210208
Abstract: A portable computer capable of displaying a foreign image signal from an external image-signal generator is disclosed. The portable computer includes a computer host generating a local image signal in a first operation condition and suspending the local image signal in a second operation condition, a signal transferring device in communication with a signal output channel of the external image-signal generator for transferring the foreign image signal received from the image signal generator, and a display device electrically connected to the computer host and the signal transferring device for receiving and displaying the local image signal in the first operation condition, and receiving and displaying the foreign image signal in the second operation condition.
