    Abstract: A method of converting a text message into synthesized speech, comprises the steps of: storing a speech synthesis template for synthesizing speech; sending a text message together with an identifier identifying the source of the text message to a recipient of the text message; and sending a copy of the speech synthesis template to the recipient of the text message. In one embodiment of the invention the speech synthesis template is not sent unless it is requested by the recipient of the text message.
