    Abstract: An ostomy appliance has a waste collection bag attached to an adhesive wafer. The adhesive wafer includes an adhesive layer, a backing layer deposited on a distal side of the adhesive layer, a hole formed through the adhesive layer, and a neutralizing layer deposited on the distal side of the adhesive layer. The neutralizing layer is in direct contact with the adhesive layer and is inside of the waste collection bag. The neutralizing layer has a neutralizer that is adapted to neutralize output from the stoma.
