    Abstract: A media gateway controller can manage a remote media gateway by sending standard media gateway control commands over an HDLC channel in a time division multiplexed link. The media gateway control commands are sent from the media gateway controller to a local media gateway, where the commands are encapsulated in a command packet and placed in the information field of an HDLC frame. The remote media gateway receives the HDLC frame, removes the media gateway control command, and takes the steps necessary to process the command. The command packet may include a packet header that identifies the type of command contained in the packet.
