  • Publication number: 20190113046
Abstract: A centrifugal compressor wheel assembly that can be employed in devices such as turbochargers or as a component for mechanisms requiring a compressor wheel assembly that includes a tubular insert with a compressor wheel member connected thereto which engages a shaft and a turbocharger including the compressor wheel assembly. The tubular insert has a wall member defining a shaft bore that extends from an inlet end to an opposed outlet end. The wall member has an outer circumferential surface and an opposed inner circumferential surface. At least one engagement member may be defined on the inner circumferential surface. An engagement member may be defined on the outer circumferential surface. The tubular insert can be composed of a suitable metal.

  • Publication number: 20160363136
Abstract: A compressor housing (12) and a method of retaining for use with a turbocharger having a noise attenuation device (20) secured in a compressor cover (14). A staking tool (40) deforms compressor cover material to retain the noise attenuation device (20). The compressor housing (12) includes the noise attenuation device (20) seated on a first shoulder (24) in the cover (14), and a second shoulder (26) is deformed securing the noise attenuation device (20) in the cover (14). Retaining a noise attenuation device (20) in the cover (14) may include mounting the cover (14) with the air inlet section (16) upward; placing the noise attenuation device (20) in the air inlet section (16) on the first shoulder (24); and applying an impact load with a staking tool (40) to deform compressor cover material around the noise attenuation device (20) to secure it in the cover (14).

  • Patent number: 9188133
Abstract: A product is disclosed for inhibiting oil from entering a turbocharger compressor. A compressor wheel may be disposed in a wheel chamber of a housing to rotate at a range of speeds. The compressor wheel may be surrounded by a collection volute with a diffuser channeling air from the wheel chamber to the collection volute. A shaft may extend through the housing and may be connected to the compressor wheel. The shaft may be supported by a bearing that may be lubricated through an oil circuit. A pressure differential between the wheel chamber and the oil circuit inhibits oil from entering the wheel chamber. The pressure differential may be maintained during rotation of the compressor wheel at a low end of the range of speeds by a collar disposed near a tip of the compressor wheel at an entrance to the diffuser.
