  • Patent number: 6414304
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for determining the position of a wheel mounted on a vehicle, wherein at least two target locations on the wheel are irradiated by a transmitter from a given location. The beams are reflected at the target locations and received by a receiver at a given location. The wheel position is ascertained from the measurement values produced by that arrangement, with signals associated with the respective target locations being emitted at given times and the periods of time from emission to reception of the signals reflected at the respective target locations being measured so the wheel position is determined from the measured times.

  • Patent number: 5311668
Abstract: A wheel position measuring apparatus comprises a detector device and a wheel adaptor for fixing the detector device to a motor vehicle wheel whose position is to be measured, in aligned relationship relative to the wheel axis. Connected between the detector device and the wheel adaptor is an angle measuring device for measuring the angle between the wheel adaptor when secured to the wheel and the detector device, in a plane which is perpendicular to the axis of the wheel, with the apex of the angle being on the axis of the wheel.

  • Patent number: 5291264
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for optically measuring an angle between the positions of components relative to each other, such as the wheels of a motor vehicle, in a vertical plane, light beams are directed along the sides of the angle to be measured. One light beam which is directed along one side of the angle is maintained in respect of its direction, while the light beam directed along the other side of the angle is deflected by the effect of the force of gravity.

  • Patent number: 5208647
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for the optical measurement of an angle between the positions of components relative to each other, such as the wheels of a motor vehicle, a light beam is directed along a first side of the angle to be measured towards the apex thereof and from there is transmitted at intervals of time which each correspond to a full 360.degree. rotation for a first signal registration step at a first moment in time. A second light beam is directed along the second side of the angle to the apex thereof and from there is transmitted, relative to the respective first moment in time, with a time difference corresponding to the angle between the first and second light beams, for a second signal registration operation, at a second moment in time. The magnitude of the angle is calculated from the interval between the two signal registration operations.
