Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of a 3-mercaptoheptyl carboxylate, in the form of any one of its stereoisomers or mixture thereof, as flavoring ingredient, in particular to impart fruity, teas and citrus aftertaste. The compounds provide long-lastingness to the flavors composition in which they are added.

Abstract: Cyclic ethers of formula ##STR1## wherein the dotted line indicates the location of a single or double bond and the symbol R represents an isopropenyl radical or a 1-ethoxy-1-methylethyl radical, are novel compounds with useful organoleptic properties. They can be used as active ingredients in perfuming compositions and perfumed products to which they confer rosy-fruity type odor notes. In addition, they possess flavor qualities which render these compounds useful for flavoring foodstuffs and drinks and, namely, mango-type drinks.A process for the preparation of the compounds of formula (I) is also disclosed.

Abstract: Method is provided for cyclization of polyunsaturated substituted acylic or monocarbocyclic initiator group containing compound having an endocyclic double bond with a chalcogen atom in the allylic position of the initiator group and having at least two sites of unconjugated aliphatic unsaturation in the side chain substituent on the ring. The polyunsaturated compound is cyclized in the presence of a strong acid in a protic solvent which is inert to the acid, preferably a hydroxylic solvent. Mild temperatures and varying times are employed. The products are useful primarily as intermediates for naturally occurring and synthetic steroids. By appropriate substitution of the side chain, the steroidial products are provided with the substituent at C-11, which upon cyclization results in the alpha-configuration. By resolution of the intermediates prior to cyclization, optically active steroids can be obtained.
