  • Patent number: 11756505
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices are provided for providing intra-frame luminance scaling to avoid drawing excessive power while still providing exceptional brightness. An instantaneous average pixel luminance of an electronic display may be determined. The instantaneous average pixel luminance may correspond to an amount of light currently being emitted by the electronic display due to a previous image frame and a current image frame. Based at least in part on the instantaneous average pixel luminance, the luminance of a subset of pixels of image data of the current image frame may be adjusted, thereby allowing the electronic display to operate at a relatively high brightness level without exceeding a power limit.

  • Patent number: 11302264
Abstract: A display device may include rows of pixels that display image data on a display and a circuit. The circuit may receive pixel data value of image data for a pixel in a first row of the rows of pixels, determine a weight factor to apply to the pixel data value based on a position of the first row with respect to the other rows, such that each row is associated with a current-resistance (IR) drop across the display. The weight factor is determined based on a respective IR drop associated with the first row. The circuit may also generate a weighted pixel data value based on the weight factor and the pixel data value and send the weighted pixel data value to a display driver circuit that renders the image data via the display.

  • Publication number: 20210304673
Abstract: A system may include an electronic display panel having pixels, where each pixel may emit light based on a respective programming signal. The system may include a memory storing a map. The processing circuitry may determine a function for each pixel from the map. The processing circuitry may determine a respective control signal based on the function and a target brightness level for each pixel to generate multiple control signals, where the respective control signal is used to generate the respective programing signal for each pixel. The processing circuitry may determine a scaling factor based at least in part on the first map and may scale at least a subset of the multiple control signals based at least in part on the scaling factor.

  • Patent number: 11087670
Abstract: An electronic device may have a flexible display such as an organic light-emitting diode display. A strain sensing resistor may be formed on a bent tail portion of the flexible display to gather strain measurements. Resistance measurement circuitry in a display driver integrated circuit may make resistance measurements on the strain sensing resistor and a temperature compensation resistor to measure strain. A crack detection line may be formed from an elongated pair of traces that are coupled at their ends to form a loop. The crack detection line may run along a peripheral edge of the flexible display. Crack detection circuitry may monitor the resistance of the crack detection line to detect cracks. The crack detection circuitry may include switches that adjust the length of the crack detection line and thereby allow resistances to be measured for different segments of the line.

  • Patent number: 10916182
Abstract: Systems and methods for improving perceived image quality of an electronic display communicatively coupled to an image data source that outputs a synchronization control signal, which indicates when an image frame is expected to stop being written, based on a source clock signal. The electronic display includes a display pixel row, a display driver, and a timing controller. The timing controller determines a target scan time to be used to write the image frame to the display pixel row and instructs the display driver to write the image frame to the display pixel row based on the target scan time and a display block signal, in which the timing controller instructs the display driver to continue writing the image frame to display pixel row after the electronic display receives the synchronization control signal when the synchronization control signal is received before the target scan time is reached.

  • Patent number: 10573236
Abstract: A display may have an array of pixels. Due to the presence of a notch in the display, the display may have some rows that are shorter than other rows in the display, and accordingly different gate line loading. To account for the gate line loading variations, the display driver circuitry may have gate driver circuits that provide different gate line signals to different rows of pixels within the display. In other arrangement, luminance adjustment circuitry may receive image data and generate corresponding compensated image data to account for gate line loading variations between rows of pixels in the display. The image data may be compensated based on the location of the pixel, the gray level of the image data, the display brightness, and/or temperature.

  • Publication number: 20190086992
Abstract: An electronic display includes an active area having an array of pixels. The electronic display also includes multiple data power rails coupled to the active area that supply power to the array of pixels. The electronic display further includes data driving circuitry coupled to the multiple data power rails that drive the array of pixels. The electronic display also includes a controller coupled to the data driving circuitry having a processor. The processor causes the array of pixels to emit light based on a display brightness value. The processor also causes a pixel of the array of pixels to emit light at a brightness of gray level 0 by dynamically adjusting a data power rail of the multiple data power rails.

  • Patent number: 10199323
Abstract: An item may have a flexible support structure and may include a flexible component. The flexible component may have electrical components mounted on component mounting regions in a flexible circuit substrate. The component mounting regions may be interconnected by serpentine interconnect paths or other flexible interconnect paths. The flexible circuit substrate and component mounting regions may extend along a longitudinal axis of the flexible component or may form a two-dimensional array. Two-dimensional mesh-shaped flexible circuit substrates may be used in forming displays. The mesh-shaped flexible circuit substrates may be auxetic substrates that widen when stretched (e.g., structures with a negative Poisson's ratio that become thicker perpendicular to applied force when stretched) and that therefore reduce image distortion. Temporary tethers may help hold flexible circuit substrates together until intentionally broken following assembly of a flexible component into the flexible support structure.

  • Patent number: 8109321
Abstract: A modular heat sink assembly is disclosed. The heat sink assembly includes a main (larger) heat sink member having one or more voids through the member. The heat sink assembly also includes one or more additional (smaller) heat sink members that fit within the voids of the main heat sink member and are able to move (float) within the voids while thermally connected to main heat sink member. The thermal connection to the main heat sink member may be accomplished by incorporating heat pipes as a bridge between the heat sink members, so that heat spreading, and regulation thereof, occurs over the additional heat sink members and the main heat sink member.
