  • Publication number: 20040127243
Abstract: A method and system for providing a broadcast or multicast service to a terminal device in a data network, wherein a connection state of the terminal device is switched to a dedicated channel state in which a dedicated physical channel is allocated to the terminal device, in response to a broadcast service notification. Thereby, point-to-point connections can be used for data transmission of said broadcast or multicast service, without requiring any additional responses from the concerned terminal devices.

  • Publication number: 20040102212
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for linking a service context to a terminal connection in a network controlling device of a data network, wherein a service indication is forwarded via the terminal connection to the data network, and an association is established between the service context and the terminal connection based on a network response to the service indication. The desired link between the terminal connection and the service context can thus be established at the network controlling device based on the forwarded service indication, e.g. cause value for establishing the terminal connection. Thereby, network resources can be optimized by releasing non-valid terminal connections.

  • Publication number: 20040081192
Abstract: The invention relates to a network element (23) for a radio access network (22) of a cellular network supporting the transmission of multicast and broadcast multimedia services via a radio interface Uu to user equipment (25), which network element (23) comprises radio interface protocols associated to different protocol layers including a data link layer (layer 2). In order to enable such transmissions, it is proposed that the data link layer comprises a dedicated multicast broadcast multimedia control sublayer (L2/MBMC) for a multicast broadcast multimedia control protocol (MBMC). The MBMC is to adapt multicast and broadcast multimedia services, originating from a core network of said cellular network, for transmission in the radio interface Uu. The invention equally relates to a corresponding radio access network, to a corresponding cellular network, to a corresponding user equipment, to a corresponding radio access based communication system, and to a corresponding method.

  • Publication number: 20040042491
Abstract: A method for acknowledged transmission of data packets in a telecommunications system, comprising a convergence protocol layer for creating convergence protocol packets, and a link layer for transmitting convergence protocol packets and for acknowledging the transmission. A data packet number is defined for the convergence protocol packets by means of counters of the transmitter and the receiver which are synchronized with each other, in which case the transmitted convergence protocol packets are acknowledged by means of said counters. After reconfiguration of a radio bearer, the counters are synchronized by comparing the values of respective counters, and if the value of the transmitter's counter is smaller than the value of the receiver's counter, a temporary counter is started for the receiver. The value of the transmitter's counter is set as the value of the temporary counter, and the temporary counter is used until its value reaches a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 6701155
Abstract: A method is provided to activate a packet data protocol (PDP) context in a cellular network. This may include determining whether users associated with the cellular network may receive multicast or broadcast data and activating the PDP context based on the determination. The determination may be based on a trigger that occurs when a notification is sent to the Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN). The SGSN may get notified based on a periodic status query, an update message and/or an activation request, for example.

  • Publication number: 20040039910
Abstract: The present invention relates to relocation of the control of communication between a first station and a second station from a first communication system controller to a second communication system controller. The communication is ciphered by means of a first ciphering key. In the method, after the initiation of the relocation of control of the communication from the fist controller to the second controller a quest for relocation is transmitted to the second controller. • Publication number: 20030165161
Abstract: A method for acknowledged transmission of data packets in a packet-switched telecommunications system. A data packet number is defined for the convergence protocol packets to be transmitted by means of sending and receiving counters which are synchronized with each other, in which case the transmitted convergence protocol packets are acknowledged with the counter values. Convergence protocol packets containing only user data are used in the data transmission between the sender and the receiver. If the counters become asynchronous, convergence protocol packets containing a packet data number are sent, and the number of these convergence protocol packets is indicated to the receiver. The counters are synchronized on the basis of the data packet numbers of the convergence protocol packets. After the number of convergence protocol packets with a data packet number have been sent, transmission of convergence protocol packets containing only user data is continued.

  • Publication number: 20030157952
Abstract: The power level of multicast data transmissions in a wireless communications network are controlled. Power level information is provided in a transmitted channel received by a user equipment. The user equipment measures the power level of a received signal. It compares the measured power level to the power level indicated by the power level information provided in the transmitted channel. Power level measurement information is included in a message sent by the user equipment depending on the results obtained when the power level measured by the user equipment is compared to the power level indicated by the power level information provided in the transmitted channel.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and system for multicast service announcement in a cell that includes a core network, a UTRAN, and one or more mobile network nodes. The UTRAN includes a RNC. The RNC continuously sends multicast service announcements in a frame over a channel such as a PICH. The frame may include a type field and an indication field where the type field contains information related to the type of information in the indication field, or the frame may include a current service announcement identification field, a next service announcement identification field, and a time offset field. The type field can be used also to separate long term scheduling announcement or service advertising frames from the multicast/broadcast data frames, or the type field can be used to separate the multicast/broadcast control frames from the multicast/broadcast data frames.

  • Publication number: 20030099255
Abstract: A channel inverse multiplexer/multiplexer (IMUX/MUX) (14a) of a MAC sublayer (14) of a UTRAN RNC (11) for providing to a UE (18) traffic (communication signals including in general both control and user data) at a higher rate than the UE can accept over a single channel.
