Publication number: 20250231654Abstract: A consumer appliance or touch panel interface, as provided herein, may include a fascia panel, a Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC) with touch-responsive components, and resistive material arranged within. The FPC may be bonded directly to a touch film on the fascia panel. The resistive material may encapsulate the fascia or be positioned between the fascia and FPC. The resistive material provides thermal insulation and may be made of silicon. The silicon resistive material positioned between the fascia and the FPC may help to reduce shearing in the bonding region. The fascia may accommodate non-linear curvatures. The FPC has distinct regions for touch interactivity and illumination feedback, without a need for additional touch circuitry.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 17, 2024Publication date: July 17, 2025Inventor: Sithaarth T. SUBRAMANIYAM

Patent number: 9933131Abstract: In one aspect, a device has a controller and a fascia assembly, with a fascia, and a printed circuit board (PCB) mounted to the fascia. The PCB has a plurality of holes, and a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs), wherein one LED is mounted adjacent to each hole. The device also includes a wiring harness coupling the controller to the PCB wherein the LEDs may be energized according to signals received from the controller; and a console adjacent the PCB. The console has a plurality of light reflecting cups arranged therein so that each light reflecting cup covers an LED and the adjacent hole to reflect light from the LEDs through the holes so that the light is visible through the fascia assembly.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2016Date of Patent: April 3, 2018Assignee: Whirlpool CorporationInventors: Matthew P. Ebrom, Eric J. Schuh, Sithaarth T. Subramaniyam, Sugosh Venkataraman, Shivayogi Annigeri, Michael E. Gatt, Ajay Ram Narayana Pillai, Mihir Ponkshe

Patent number: 9589748Abstract: A cycle selector knob to rotary encoder user interface for the operation of an appliance has a knob for rotating a shaft of a rotary encoder wherein the shaft is received by a control panel barrel to provide radial and thrust bearing surfaces. The knob has an axial boss dimensioned to affix to the shaft and bear against the radial bearing surface of the barrel and a shoulder to bear against the thrust bearing surface of the barrel. The control panel is secured to a console so that radial and thrust forces of the knob are directed via the radial and thrust bearing surfaces only to the console through the control panel.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2014Date of Patent: March 7, 2017Assignee: Whirlpool CorporationInventors: Timothy E. Heater, Sithaarth T. Subramaniyam
