  • Patent number: 7619077
Abstract: The invention provides an isolated nucleic acid molecule encoding the polypeptide GALAT1 having galacturonosyltransferase (GalAT) activity. The Arabidopsis GALAT1 sequence disclosed represents the first pectin biosynthetic glycosyltransferase gene isolated from plants. The invention further provides 14 GALAT and 10 GALAT-like gene superfamily members. The identification of the GALAT gene superfamily offers new opportunities to modulate pectin synthesis in vivo and in vitro by modulating the GALAT gene, for example, transgenic plants that produce modified pectins can be generated by altering the GALAT gene. Since modified pectins are predicted to affect plant growth, development, and plant defense responses, the transgenic plants are expected to have improved agricultural value. The modified pectins isolated from such transgenic plants are useful as gelling and stabilizing agents in the food, neutraceutical, and pharmaceutical industries.

  • Publication number: 20070210004
Abstract: The present invention provides a novel adsorbent carbon supported activated alumina (CSAA) which posses both the advantageous characteristics of carbon and alumina viz., the high specific surface area associated with activated carbon and high sorption capacity of alumina towards F? Carbon supported activated alumina has an added advantage of its usage in the neutral pH unlike alumina and alumina impregnated carbon which are found to be efficient only in acidic pH. It is more efficient compared to carbon in terms of its sorption capacity towards F? and is therefore useful for the efficient removal of fluoride ions from water.

  • Patent number: 7219108
Abstract: Determining relationships among objects represented in a database includes defining a plurality of tiles in the approximation of the first geometry by dividing the approximation of the first geometry in a first direction a plurality of times and dividing the approximation of the first geometry in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction a plurality of times. A second geometry is analyzed to determine if it fulfills a first filter condition with respect to any of the tiles defined in the approximation of the first geometry. If the second geometry fulfills the first filter condition with respect to any of the tiles defined in the first geometry carrying out a mathematical comparison of the first geometry and the second geometry.
