  • Publication number: 20240124000
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting a failure of a wheel speed sensor. One example system includes an encoder and an electronic processor. The electronic processor is configured to receive, from the wheel speed sensor, a wheel speed, receive, from the encoder, a signal, and determine, based on the signal from the encoder, a positional change of an electric motor shaft of the electric motor. The electronic processor is configured to determine, based on the wheel speed and the positional change of the electric motor, whether the wheel speed sensor is faulty.

  • Publication number: 20230398965
Abstract: A system for controlling a vehicle using driving behavior involving automatic emergency braking (AEB) events. The system includes a plurality of sensors and an electronic processor. The system receives event data of an attribute of a driving behavior of a user related to handling an AEB event of a vehicle from the plurality of sensors. The system assigns a weighted value to the attribute based on a set of conditions for the attribute and the event data. The system determines an event score of the driving behavior related to the AEB event based on the weighted value of the attribute. The system determines a user driving behavior score based on the event score associated with one or more AEB events handled by the user. The system activates a vehicle countermeasure related to attributes responsive to determining the driving behavior score of the user is greater than a driving behavior threshold.

  • Patent number: 11685358
Abstract: A system and method for classifying an actuation of an electric parking brake of a vehicle is presented. In one example, the system includes a sensor configured to sense a vehicle parameter, an output device, a memory including an electric parking brake usage profile, and an electronic controller configured to receive the electric parking brake usage profile, receive the vehicle parameter, detect an actuation of the electric parking brake, and in response to detecting an actuation of the electric parking brake: determine a reason for the actuation of the electric parking brake, determine an attribute of the vehicle based on the vehicle parameter, classify the actuation of the electric parking brake based on a numerical value of the attribute and/or the reason for the actuation of the electric parking brake, update the electric parking brake usage profile based on the classification, and output the updated parking brake usage profile.

  • Patent number: 11475723
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining a fault in an electronic controller. The system includes a first electronic controller, a second electronic controller, and a remote electronic controller. The second electronic controller executes a diagnostic service routine configured to access a restricted section of a memory associated with the first electronic controller, receives a failure code from the restricted section of the memory associated with the first electronic controller, generates a logging file including the failure code, and sends the logging file to the remote electronic controller. The remote electronic controller determines a fault in the first electronic controller based upon the logging file.

  • Publication number: 20200369253
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for distributed electric park brake control. The vehicle's electronic stability controller (ESC) is configured to monitor the status of an electric parking brake switch and to provide control signals to a motor-on-caliper actuator based on the status of the electric parking brake switch. A secondary brake system controller (for example, a brake pedal “booster” unit) that is configured to control at least one function of the braking system that is not related to the parking brake function is further configured to determine whether the ESC is operating properly and, in response to determining that the ESC is not operating properly, to monitor the status of the electric parking brake switch and provide the control signals to the motor-on-caliper actuator based on the status of the electric parking brake switch.

  • Publication number: 20200207357
Abstract: A system for modifying vehicle behavior based on data from a dynamically updated roadway coefficient of friction database. The system includes a roadway coefficient of friction database and an electronic computing device. The electronic computing device includes a first electronic processor that is configured to receive a current coefficient of friction and a location of a vehicle and depending on a criterion, replace, in the roadway coefficient of friction database, a previous coefficient of friction with the current coefficient of friction. The first electronic processor is also configured to receive a request for a coefficient of friction associated with a location and transmit the coefficient of friction associated with the location. Additionally, the system includes a plurality of vehicles each including a second electronic processor. Each second electronic processor is configured to perform a preventative measure based on the coefficient of friction received from the electronic computing device.
