  • Patent number: 4257467
Abstract: In a pneumatic, tired wheel having a tubeless tire mounted on the rim of the wheel, the improvement comprising a toroidal support device to enable the tired wheel to travel in a flat state. The support device comprises an inflatable, toroidal, inner tube located on the rim for elastically clamping the tire beads against the rim flanges, said tube radially extending from the well of the rim to or slightly beyond the radially outer edges of the rim flanges, and a toroidal support element whose radially internal, circumferential wall section is impervious to puncture and lies adjacent the radially external, circumferential area of the inner tube, and wherein the outer surface area of the support element is spaced from the inner surface area of the tire when the tire is in its inflated state so that under normal travel conditions the support element does not contact the inner surface area of the tire.

  • Patent number: 4218277
Abstract: A pneumatic tire having a radial carcass and at least two plies of steel cord belts as constituents of the reusable tire body has recap components that include an unvulcanized reinforcement belt having rubberized textile cord elements oriented parallel with respect to the equatorial plane of the tire. The textile cord reinforcement belt is wound around the tire under tension and an unvulcanized tread strip is applied thereover. Subsequent vulcanization assures a firm bond between the recap components and the used tire body.

  • Patent number: 4212340
Abstract: A radial carcass pneumatic tire having a carcass ply turn-up portion includes a reinforcement ply folded around each bead ring. Each reinforcement ply overlaps and extends beyond the turn-up edge of the carcass play and includes for example a steel cord portion of thick cross-section abutting a textile cord portion of thinner cross section. The cords throughout the reinforcement ply are arranged obliquely with the cords of the radial carcass ply. In other respective embodiments a transition zone between the thick and thin portions of the reinforcement ply includes a cover strip, an overlapping portion and a filler strip. The bead reinforcement constructions reduce bead element edge separations and provide a desirable graduated stiffness from the bead to the beginning area of the sidewall permitting optimal transferring of torque and force.

  • Patent number: 4202394
Abstract: A pneumatic tire having a radial carcass and at least two plies of steel cord belts as constituents of the reusable tire body has recap components that include an unvulcanized reinforcement belt comprising two spaced unconnected strips having rubberized textile cord elements oriented parallel with respect to the equatorial plane of the tire. Each strip is wound around a marginal zone of the tire under tension for at least one full winding. An unvulcanized tread strip is applied thereover. Subsequent vulcanization assures a firm bond between the recap components and the used tire body.
