Patent number: 8004740Abstract: Aspects of the present invention include a device and system for providing reflective electrochromic switching devices having an optically reflective layer with at least one electrochromic material, a substrate, and an excitation means and controller for transmitting received light in association with transmissivity of the reflective layer at a predetermined time. The devices may be used in an array or system format to provide improved display resolutions in a manner where the devices are fixedly mounted in relation to an emitting light source.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2006Date of Patent: August 23, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Slavek P. Aksamit, David D. Chudy

Patent number: 7770048Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a device and a counter system coupled thereto. The counter system provides an indication of a number of times the device is inserted into a slot. Through the use of the device disclosed above, a history and a number of insertions of a particular device within a system can be known and therefore it can be determined if the integrity of the device is threatened.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2007Date of Patent: August 3, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Slavek P. Aksamit, David D. Chudy, Cristian Medina

Publication number: 20090134382Abstract: A multilevel logic transistor including a ballistic channel, the ballistic channel formed in a substrate layer and configured to receive a flow of electrons generated by an emitter, a deflection barrier, the deflection barrier comprising at least two deflection surfaces and a deflection channel, and a deflection controller, the deflection controller configured to generate an electrical biasing field for directing the flowed of electrons, wherein the deflection barrier is positioned in the ballistic channel such that the deflection barrier is in the path of the received electrons. The multilevel logic transistor can further include an electron spin controller configured to generate a particular spin on each electron in the flow of electrons.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 27, 2007Publication date: May 28, 2009Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Slavek P. Publication number: 20080144293Abstract: In accordance with the present disclosure, a drawer slide rack equipment mount that allows an equipment chassis to be operational when the chassis is slid in the rack and when the chassis is slid outward from the rack such that components in the chassis can be tested while the components are operating as part of the rack system. The drawer slide can include a first rigid member and a second rigid member to slidably engage the first rigid member. Also a set of contacts holders can hold contacts proximate to the first rigid member and in a parallel configuration with the first rigid member such that when conductors on an equipment chassis (and a second rigid member) move with the second rigid member along the first rigid member the set of contacts mounted in relation to the first rigid member can engage the conductors on the equipment chassis in more than one location.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2006Publication date: June 19, 2008Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Slavek P. Patent number: 7268491Abstract: A display is disclosed. The display comprises a plurality of expandable tubes and a rollable material coupled to the expandable tubes, wherein the plurality of tubes can be expanded and contracted to increase or decrease the size of the display. The user of the expandable display in accordance with the present invention would have the benefit of having a much larger display to work with, and still be able to shrink it for ease of transportation. An added benefit to the user is that the color intensity of such a design is significantly higher than that of current LCD displays. Such displays also have the benefit of not requiring backlighting to operate.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2004Date of Patent: September 11, 2007Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Slavek P.
