  • Patent number: 8283636
Abstract: A high resolution material observation system includes an object having at least one spatial dimension sufficient to support production of near-field infrared emissions, a holder adapted to receive a sample to be observed, the holder further adapted to position the sample in the near-field infrared emissions, and a thermal excitation unit, adapted to be thermally coupled to at least one of the object and the sample. The thermal excitation unit is further adapted to causing black body radiation in either the object or the sample within the infrared spectrum.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 10, 2012
Date of Patent: October 9, 2012
    Assignee: International Business Machines Corporation
Inventors: Hendrik F. Hamann, Snorri Ingvarsson, James A. Lacey

  • Publication number: 20080020491
Abstract: A method of making a conductor with improved magnetic field per current ratio is disclosed. The conductor includes a magnetic liner lining a second surface and sides thereof. The magnetic liner is preferably a super-paramagnet with high susceptibility or a ferromagnet with a microstructure where the size of the non-exchanged coupled micro domains is so small that their energy content is close to or small compared to kT that such films have super-paramagnetic properties and essentially behave like a paramagnet with high susceptibility.
    Type: Application
    Filed: July 30, 2007
    Publication date: January 24, 2008
Applicants: International Business Machines Corporation, Infineon Technologies North America Corp.

  • Publication number: 20070224454
Abstract: Magnetic materials and uses thereof are provided. In one aspect, a magnetic film is provided. The magnetic film comprises superparamagnetic particles on at least one surface thereof. The magnetic film may be patterned and may comprise a ferromagnetic material. The superparamagnetic particles may be coated with a non-magnetic polymer and/or embedded in a non-magnetic host material. The magnetic film may have increased damping and/or decreased coercivity.
