  • Patent number: 5307912
Abstract: A slip clutch has a first clutch element rotatable about a clutch axis and having a planar surface centered on the axis and formed with at least one axially backwardly open recess and a second clutch element also rotatable about the axis and formed with at least one axially forwardly open window alignable with the recess and having a pair of sides spaced angularly apart by a predetermined distance. A coupling body in the window is axially forwardly engageable in the recess and has an angular dimension substantially smaller than the distance. A pusher body in the window axially backward of the coupling body bears axially forwardly against the coupling body and angularly against one of the sides of the window. A spring unit bears axially forwardly on the pusher body, pressing the pusher body axially forward toward the first element and angularly against the one side of the window, and pressing the coupling body with the pusher body axially forward toward the first element.

  • Patent number: 5035311
Abstract: An overload clutch has a pair of clutch members relatively rotatable about an axis and each formed with an axially forwardly directed track and with a plurality of angularly spaced seats opening into the track, these seats being alignable to form axially forwardly open pockets in at least one relative angular position of the members. A bearing supports the members on each other for relative rotation about the clutch axis. Respective rollers engageable in the pockets are angularly displaceable in the tracks so that when they are in the pockets the two members are rotationally coupled such that one can drive the other and when the rollers are in the track the members are relatively rotatable.

  • Patent number: 4820240
Abstract: A constant velocity joint is provided with an outer part, in the inner surface of which tracks are provided, an inner part, on the outer surface of which corresponding tracks are provided, and with balls in a pivotable cage located in the space between the outer part and the inner part. Taking as a basis the particular axial displacement, caused by the torque, of the outer part and the inner part in relation to the cage, this displacement depending mainly on the amount of the respective axial clearances of the pairs of centering surfaces and/or on the brinelling of the window support surfaces by the balls in the running-in phase and also on the elastic flexibility of the parts, the running-in wear and the thermal expansion.

  • Patent number: 4582502
Abstract: A constant velocity joint comprises in combination a rotatable shaft having three outwardly projecting trunions, each of which carries a roller; a case rotating about and with the shaft and having three inner equally spaced longitudinal grooves aligned with the rollers and allowing longitudinal motion between the rollers and the casing; and an elongate guide interposed between each roller and its corresponding groove, with the guide being affixed to the shaft against relative longitudinal motion between the two, while permitting some tilting of the elongate guide relative to the shaft, and with the guide being free to move longitudinally in the groove of the casing.

  • Patent number: 4467902
Abstract: Two coaxial clutch members, one driving and one driven, are normally coupled for joint rotation by several peripherally spaced rotary coupling elements projecting under a resilient biasing force into aligned sets of recesses thereof, at least one of these sets having camming edges by which the coupling elements are dislodged against their biasing force when the driven clutch member tends to lag behind the driving clutch member in the event of an overload. One clutch member, or a guide member entrained thereby, has peripherally spaced-apart lodgments which are aligned with its recesses at least during normal operation and confine the cammed-out coupling elements under overload conditions; the guide member may be a cage operatively connected with both clutch members through a planetary-gear transmission so as to rotate about their axis at a speed intermediate those of the two clutch members when they are decoupled from each other.

  • Patent number: 4325232
Abstract: In a constant velocity universal joint, an inner joint body is inserted into a hollow outer joint body. A cage is positioned between the inner and outer joint bodies and balls held in windows in the cage extend into grooves formed in the facing surfaces of the inner and outer joint bodies. The centers of the balls are located in a plane which bisects the angle between the axis of the inner and outer joint bodies when the universal joint is bent. The windows in the cage have two boundary surfaces extending parallel to the plane containing the centers of the balls. One of the two boundary surfaces includes a bevelled face extending outwardly to the outer surface of the cage. The prolongation of the bevelled surface intersects the plane containing the centers of the balls.

  • Patent number: 4191031
Abstract: A swivel joint for transmitting torque between a drive shaft and a driven shaft includes an outer joint member having an interior cavity connected with one of the shafts and an inner joint member carried within the cavity connected with the other shaft. A first plurality of ball receiving grooves are formed on the interior wall surface of the cavity and a second plurality of ball receiving grooves equal in number to the first plurality are formed on the exterior surface of the inner joint member. A ball is carried between at least one pair of corresponding ball receiving grooves of the first and second plurality of grooves for transmitting torque between the inner and outer joint members. A cage having circumferentially arranged window recesses is positioned between the inner and outer joint members and the balls are retained in the window recesses.
