  • Publication number: 20090067857
Abstract: A tandem-type color image forming apparatus forms a toner pattern and toner markers on an intermediate transfer member. Tone levels in the toner pattern vary in a sub scanning direction, and the toner markers which are a same color with the tone pattern each oppose, in a main scanning direction, a different one of the tone level portions in the toner pattern, each tone level portion representing a different one of the tone levels. Positions of the toner markers in the sub scanning direction are determined to detect densities in the toner pattern corresponding to the determined positions. Tone of image data is corrected in an image formation based on a relationship between the densities and the tone levels corresponding to the determined positions.

  • Patent number: 6501566
Abstract: An image processing apparatus that can carry out an error diffusion process without degrading the quality of image data generates a density histogram according to pixels included in the input image data. Reference densities S1 and S2 are calculated from pixels having a certain density in a set range. Threshold values T1-T3 are calculated according to the obtained reference densities S1 and S2.

  • Patent number: 6433896
Abstract: In an image processing apparatus, an image reading unit reads a document put on a platen glass to generate image data, and a detector in the image reading unit detects offset, tilt angle and document area of the document put on the platen glass. A rotation angle is set based on the image data of a document. The entire document area is determined based on a portion of the document which exists within the image reading area when the document extends beyond the image reading area. The document area can be detected even if a document is not rectangular. For example, a slope of the document is determined based on the detected longest segment. In order to solve the unequal reading pitch, the longest segment is selected in the segments having a slope smaller than a predetermined angle relative to the subscan direction. Then, the image data are corrected according to the above result.

  • Patent number: 6292268
Abstract: An image processor converts pixel data represented with m gradations into pixel data represented with n gradations by using the error diffusion method. The m and n are both given integers and satisfy 2<n<m. Not only the error but also a weight assigning value is added to pixel data to be converted. The weight assigning value is determined according to the values of m and n.
