  • Publication number: 20010040692
Abstract: A data processing apparatus, such as a facsimile apparatus, connected to a LAN, that transmits and/or receives data to or from another apparatus, wherein even if an error or failure such as a printer error or an insufficiency of available space in image memory for storing image data occurs, the required process is continued by transferring the image data from the data processing apparatus to another apparatus also connected to the LAN. The data processing apparatus has the capability of detecting an error in the LAN when the apparatus is connected to the LAN. This allows the data processing apparatus to operate correctly without problems that might otherwise occur due to the error in the LAN. The data processing apparatus also has the capability of operating in an adequate process mode corresponding to a process command contained in a received packet. This allows effective use of the data processing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6313926
Abstract: There is provided a computer readable program, stored in a storage medium, for controlling a server terminal in a communication system which is structured that a data communication apparatus for transmitting and receiving data via a line and the server terminal for managing a network are at least connected to the same network, the program comprises a notifying step of notifying, in a case where the data communication apparatus received the data from a transmission side via the line, a user on the network of a fact that the data reception was performed, and a sending step of sending, in a case where the notification was performed, information representing such the notification, to the data communication apparatus. Therefore, in case of exchanging the data between the data communication apparatuses at least one of which is connected to the network, when the transmission side inquires whether the data transmitted from the transmission side has been successfully reached the user, i.e.

  • Patent number: 5973791
Abstract: Document data is transferred from a facsimile server 118 to a facsimile apparatus 201 to transmit the document data to a plurality of destinations via a communication line 116. The document data is stored in an image memory in the facsimile apparatus 201. A cover page specific to each of the destinations is input from the facsimile server 118 to the facsimile apparatus 201. The facsimile server 118 specifies IDs and the order of transmission of the files so that the cover page is transmitted first, followed by the document data, in a series of information. The facsimile apparatus 201 transmits them to the proper destination in accordance with the cover page. This process is repeated each time a cover page input is made until transmission to all destinations is completed.

  • Patent number: 5949978
Abstract: When data is to be sent from a communication apparatus connected to a local area network (LAN) to a destination communication apparatus via a communication line, communication parameters related to the destination communication apparatus are inquired to a predetermined terminal apparatus upon reception of a transmission request from a terminal apparatus connected to the LAN. Communication control of the data is performed in accordance with the transmission request based on the communication parameters obtained by the inquiry. Also transmission control of the data is performed in accordance with a communication mode decided based upon the result of an interpretation of reception capability of the destination communication apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5673118
Abstract: A communication apparatus has a calling function and is connectable to an external information-processing terminal. In response to a communication request input from the operation unit or a communication request from the external information-processing terminal, the communication apparatus performs a calling operation for facsimile communication to a receiving end. When the apparatus cannot communicate with the receiving end that was called, it carries out a recalling operation in response to a communication request from the operation unit, but does not perform the recalling operation to a communication request from the information-processing terminal.
