  • Publication number: 20020040211
Abstract: An absorbent article (10) such as a sanitary napkin includes an elongate absorbent core (12) delimited by an upper surface (14) and a lower surface (16). A pair of opposed longitudinal edge portions (18, 20) terminates in longitudinal edges (22, 24) and a pair of opposed transverse edges (26, 28). The core has a first end portion (30), a second end portion (32) and a central portion (34) located between the end portions. A liquid permeable topsheet (36) extends over the upper surface (14), and a liquid barrier backsheet (42) covers the lower surface (16) of the absorbent core (12). Leakage barriers (68, 70), each barrier covering a longitudinal edge portion (18, 20) in a respective longitudinal edge portion (18, 20), forms liquid-retaining pockets along each longitudinal edge portion.

  • Patent number: 6350257
Abstract: The invention relates to an absorbent article such as a sanitary napkin, an incontinence guard, or a panty-liner, which article has a generally elongated shape with a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction and exhibits two side edges (9, 10), two end portions (6, 7), and a crotch portion (8) located between the end portions (6, 7), which article further exhibits a liquid-pervious cover layer (2), intended to be facing the user during use, and a liquid-impervious cover layer (3), intended to be facing away from the user during use. The article comprises at least within the crotch portion (8) a stiffening element (15) of a material with a very high intrinsic stiffness, whereby the article in the crotch portion (8) has an extension in the transverse direction which during use of the article is between 40 mm and 15 mm and preferably is between 20 mm and 35 mm.

  • Publication number: 20020010451
Abstract: In the continuous manufacture of absorbent articles (17) in the form of sanitary napkins, panty liners or incontinence protectors for women, the invention provides a method of providing said articles with protective layers (25, 26, 27). According to the invention, a web (5) of protective layer material whose width corresponds at least to the greatest width of the article (17) in the machine direction (M) is provided with a sequence of pairs of cuts (8, 9) which are so spaced apart that when the web (5) of protective layer material is placed on a web (1, 3, 4) of article blanks the two cuts (8, 9) in each pair of cuts in the sequence of pairs of cuts will lie linearly between the points of connection of the flap (23, 24) with the longitudinal edges of each article.

  • Publication number: 20020010455
Abstract: Absorbent article such as a diaper and an incontinence guard comprising a liquid permeable topsheet (2), a liquid impermeable backsheet (3) and an absorbent body (4) enclosed therebetween, said article having a front portion (5), a rear portion (6) and a crotch portion (7), therebetween, whereby the front and rear portion exhibits side flaps (8, 9), which are intended to attach the article to a pantlike shape around the waist of the user. The article has at least one pre-stressed elastic means (11a) and at least attached to the back sheet, that said first elastic means (11a) is brought in an essentially V-shaped pattern having the peak of the pattern located to a first point (13) being essentially located on a imagined longitudinal centre line (12) in said crotch portion (7) and that the V-shaped elastic means (11a) diverge in the direction from said longitudinal centre line (12) toward the front portion (5).

  • Publication number: 20010053900
Abstract: The present invention relates to an absorbent article (1) in the form of a sanitary napkin, a panty liner or an incontinence protector for women comprising an absorbent body (2) which is sandwiched between a liquid-permeable outer sheet (3) and a liquid-impermeable outer sheet (4), said article having a front part (5), which is intended to face forwards when the article is worn, and a rear part, wherein the absorbent body has a length of 140-260 mm and tapers rearwardly from a section of greatest width situated in the front part of the article to the end of the rear part of said article. According to the invention, the absorbent body (2) has a widest width of 60-80 mm in its front part, and a smallest width of 5-20 mm in its rear end, and includes a layer (13) of dry-formed cellulose fibres having a density of at least 250 g/dm3 and extending over essentially the whole surface of the absorbent body, out to the front and side edges of said body.

  • Patent number: 6315766
Abstract: A sanitary napkin includes an absorbent body enclosed between an outer, liquid-impermeable casing sheet and an inner liquid-permeable casing sheet that lies proximal to the wearer's body when the napkin is in use; two side-bodies disposed laterally outside the side-edges of the absorbent body on both sides thereof, at least in the central part of the napkin, the side-bodies being separate from the absorbent body and joined to at least the outer casing sheet; and a pre-stretched elastic extending transversely between the two side-bodies which is disposed exterior to the outer casing sheet and distal to the wearer's body when the napkin is in use. The pre-stretched elastic extends laterally outside the absorbent body on both sides thereof and is attached at portions thereof to at least one of the outer casing sheet and the side-bodies.
