  • Patent number: 9896898
Abstract: A packer can include an end ring positioned proximate a seal element on a base pipe, and a gripping device positioned in an annular space between the end ring and the base pipe, the gripping device comprising a polymer composition material. A method of constructing a packer can include positioning an end ring on a base pipe, and then injecting a gripping device into an annular space between the end ring and the base pipe, whereby the gripping device grips the base pipe. Another method of constructing a packer can include positioning a gripping device in an annular space between an end ring and a base pipe, so that the gripping device grips the base pipe, the gripping device comprising a polymer composition material.

  • Publication number: 20150053396
Abstract: A packer can include an end ring positioned proximate a seal element on a base pipe, and a gripping device which is compressed radially inward by a surface formed in the end ring, the surface encircling the base pipe. A method of constructing a packer can include positioning an end ring on a base pipe proximate a seal element, and radially compressing a gripping device in the end ring, so that the gripping device grips the base pipe, radial compression of the gripping device resulting from longitudinal displacement of the gripping device relative to the end ring.

  • Patent number: 8596369
Abstract: A packer assembly can include an annular seal element and an end ring including leaves formed on a body of the end ring, whereby the leaves are biased radially outward when the seal element extends radially outward. A method of sealing an annulus in a subterranean well can include positioning a circumferential series of leaves radially outwardly overlying an annular seal element of a packer assembly, and the leaves pivoting radially outward in response to swelling of the seal element. Another packer assembly can include an annular seal element which swells in response to contact with a selected fluid in the well, and an end ring including an end ring body with a removable portion being engaged with the end ring body via interlocking profiles.
