Abstract: A method of forming a solar cell 100 having three dimensional junctions 116 created between a conductive substrate 102 having a first conductivity and a conductive layer 120 having an opposite second conductivity comprising the steps of applying the conductive layer 120 on a top surface 104 of the conductive substrate 102, exposing selective portions of the conductive layer 102 to laser radiations 124 having a wavelength ranging up to 10.6 ?m. Due to this laser application, the conductive layer 102 diffuses across a thickness of the conductive substrate 102 in the form of a plurality of channels 126. The plurality of channels 126 being formed in spaced apart relationship with each other. Thereafter, metal contacts are thermosetted on a bottom surface 114 of the conductive substrate 102 for electrically connecting exposed ends 136 of the plurality of channels 126.
