Patent number: 10779227Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for dynamic selection of connection attempt throttling algorithms based on user context. According to some embodiments, a wireless device may monitor certain current conditions of the UE, such as battery level, user activity level, motion level, and/or other conditions. Depending at least in part on the current conditions of the UE, cellular connection attempt parameters may be selected. In some conditions the cellular connection attempt parameters may be selected such as to allow more aggressive pursuit of cellular connectivity, while in other conditions the cellular connection attempt parameters may be selected such as to allow less aggressive pursuit of cellular connectivity.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2019Date of Patent: September 15, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Srinivas Pasupuleti, Sriram Venkataramanan, Someet K. Patent number: 9584995Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for multi-SIM user equipment (UE) devices to perform emergency calling. A UE may receive an indication to initiate an emergency call. The UE may select a cell on which to initiate the emergency call. If a serving cell of a first SIM of the UE is not available for the emergency call, the UE may utilize information from a second SIM of the UE as part of selecting the cell on which to initiate the emergency call. The information from the second SIM may include an indication of a serving cell of the second SIM. Alternatively or in addition, the information from the second SIM may include an indication of one or more neighboring cells of the second SIM. The emergency call may be initiated via the selected cell using the first SIM.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2015Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Harshit Chuttani, Li Su, Madhusudan Chaudhary, Sang Ho Baek, Someet K. Publication number: 20160345245Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for multi-SIM user equipment (UE) devices to search for service. A UE may determine that a first SIM of the UE is out-of-service. The UE may scan for service for the first SIM of the UE using a second SIM of the UE. An indication may be provided to the first SIM if service (or service information) is found for the first SIM. If the second SIM is also out-of-service, the UE may scan for service for the first SIM and the second SIM jointly.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 20, 2015Publication date: November 24, 2016Inventors: Harshit Chuttani, Li Su, Madhusudan Chaudhary, Sang Ho Baek, Someet K. Patent number: 9485742Abstract: In order to facilitate communication in a wireless network, an accessibility issue in the wireless network may be detected. For example, if an electronic device is near the boundary between two adjacent cells in the cellular-telephone network, the signal power of signals from a current cell or connection may decrease. Concurrently, the maximum transmit power of the electronic device may be constrained by a thermal limit of the electronic device. When this occurs, the connection may be lost unless remedial action is taken. Therefore, in response to this condition, the electronic device may temporarily increase the maximum transmit power to allow the electronic device to communicate with the cellular-telephone network so that the connection may be transitioned to another cell or connection. In this way, the communication technique may restore the communication performance and avoid a dropped call, which will improve the user experience and customer satisfaction.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2013Date of Patent: November 1, 2016Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Kwangho Byun, Rajesh Ambati, Syed A. Rahim, Someet K. Lal
