According to an aspect of an exemplary embodiment, a display apparatus including a photographing unit to photograph an image, an output unit to output audio data and video data related to content, a storage to store a plurality of face images corresponding to a plurality of users, and viewing time information to control content viewing time of at least one user from among the plurality of users, and a controller to identify a defined user by using the photographed image and the stored plurality of face images, to determine a remaining viewable time of the defined user based on viewing time information corresponding to the define user from among the plurality of users and whether the defined user is identified in the photographed image continuously at predetermined time intervals, and control output of the output unit based on the determined remaining viewable time.
