Patent number: 7928978Abstract: Disclosed is a method for generating a multi-resolution three-dimensional model, and for extracting feature lines using texture images and geometric data from a three-dimensional model. First, contours are detected for texture images using an image processing on the texture-mapped three-dimensional mesh data. With respect to geometric data, a discrete curvature is measured. The geometric data is parametrized into parameters in a two-dimensional domain, and contour images are detected using an image processing. The detected two contour images are generated into one model map, which is then reversely mapped to a reverse three-dimensional model, then next feature lines are extracted. Accordingly, a multi-resolution three-dimensional model can be generated while maintaining the extracted feature lines.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2007Date of Patent: April 19, 2011Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Soo-Kyun Kim

Publication number: 20090058990Abstract: A method for photographing a panoramic picture includes the steps of checking motion of a corresponding photographing apparatus compares currently input images and previous images in real time through a motion estimation technique employing exposure compensation. Respective images constituting a panoramic picture are photographed, and image photography information is checked that includes focus distance and optical magnification to calculate actual photography range distance of the images. A pre-set threshold is set in consideration of a calculated actual photography range distance of the images. The checked motion is confirmed as to whether the pre-set threshold has been reached, and photography time points of the respective images are determined. The respective images are photographed according to a manual mode or an automatic mode at the photography time point of the respective images.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2008Publication date: March 5, 2009Inventors: Soo-Kyun Kim, Jae-Won Moon, Sung-Dae Cho, Yun-Je Oh, Hee-Won Jung

Publication number: 20080181469Abstract: Disclosed is a method of extracting ridge and valley lines from three-dimensional point data, the method including the steps of: receiving undefined point data obtained from a three-dimensional scanning system; estimating a normal vector by principal component analysis so as to calculate a normal vector with regard to each received point; and on the basis of such information, creating a moving least squares (MLS) surface of points approximation with regard to each received point. Then, Delaunay edge is created by a Voronoi diagram with regard to each point from the created MLS surface of points; and ridge (or valley) points are extracted by measuring zero-crossing on each Delaunay edge. Ridges and valleys as lines are created by connecting the extracted ridge points in a principal curvature direction. The extraction of ridge and valley lines is used as a pre-processing step for creating three-dimensional points into mesh data, and is advantageous for identifying general model features.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2007Publication date: July 31, 2008Inventor: Soo-Kyun Kim
