Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method of initializing a system without a basic input/output system (BIOS) to vector to a memory dedicated to a network controller, requesting the BIOS from a remote source using code stored in the memory, and storing the BIOS in a volatile memory of the system.

Abstract: A method includes storing a plurality of interchangeable BIOS images, selecting a first one of the BIOS images, and attempting to perform a boot procedure using the selected first one of the BIOS images. If the boot procedure is performed successfully, a signal is sent to control logic. If the control logic does not receive the signal: (a) a second one of the BIOS images is selected, (b) a reset condition is initiated, and (c) in response to the reset condition, an attempt is made to perform a boot procedure using the selected second one of the BIOS images.

Abstract: According to an embodiment of the invention, a method and apparatus for support of a non-standard device are described. According to one embodiment, a circuit comprises a first device that is not compliant with a standard, the first device containing data; a second device that is compliant with the standard, the second device being a temporary target for the data; and a memory to receive the data from the first device.
