A provided image processing method includes: dividing an input image into a luminance signal and a chrominance signal; removing noise from the luminance signal; restoring luminance signal present in the noise removed from the luminance signal; removing noise from the chrominance signal; and combining the luminance signal and the chrominance signal from which the noises are removed. Accordingly, an image of which an edge component is well preserved and a degree of color noise is low is generated not only in a general environment but also in a low light level and high sensitivity environment having a large amount of noise.

Abstract: A method of controlling a digital photographing apparatus successively photographs one short exposure image and a plurality of long exposure images. A global motion of each of the long exposure images is compensated based on the one short exposure image. A Point Spread Function (PSF) of each of the one short exposure image and the long exposure images are extracted. A shake correction image is extracted through a repeat estimation by determining an initial value of the repeat estimation based on the one short exposure image and the long exposure images and using each PSF.

Accordingly, an image in which edge components are well preserved and a degree of color noise is reduced may be generated not only in a general environment but also in a low light level and highly sensitive environment having strong noise.

Abstract: A method of estimating a point spread function (PSF) includes: estimating a global motion between a short-exposure image and a long-exposure image that are continuously captured using different exposure times, and compensating for the global motion; calculating a first resultant image by applying a band pass filter to the short-exposure image; calculating a second resultant image by applying the band pass filter to the long-exposure image; converting the first resultant image and the second resultant image into n-level images, where n is an odd natural number greater than or equal to 3, by deducing a first n-level resultant image and a second n-level resultant image from the first resultant image and the second resultant image, respectively; correlating the first n-level resultant image and the second n-level resultant image, and calculating a correlation map; and deducing the PSF from the correlation map.

Abstract: A method of obtaining variance data or standard deviation data for efficiently reducing noise in an image is provided. The method includes (a) dividing an image into a plurality of clusters; (b) checking frequency data of data values of pixels included in each cluster; (c) obtaining a weighted average of the data values of the pixels included in each cluster; (d) obtaining a variance or a standard deviation of the data values of the pixels included in each cluster by using the weighted average; and (e) obtaining variance data or standard deviation data in accordance with weighted averages by using the weighted average and the variance or the standard deviation in each cluster. A digital photographing apparatus is also provided that includes a recording medium storing variance data or standard deviation data for efficiently reducing noise in an image which is obtained in accordance with the above method.

Abstract: Disclosed are example methods and apparatuses for image processing for improving an out-of-focus effect. A disclosed example methods includes capturing a first image, a second image, and a third image, which are captured with a different focus for a same subject and background; setting a subject portion and a background portion using the first and second images; combining the subject portion of first image and the background portion of the third image with each other to obtain an narrow depth-of-field (DOF) image; and performing image processing on the obtained narrow DOF image.
