  • Publication number: 20120031842
Abstract: A method for modifying the surface of nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis (RO) composite membranes, comprising placing said composite membrane in a suitable vessel having a feed inlet opening and a permeate outlet opening, feeding an aqueous solution of one or more monomer(s) and free radical initiator into said vessel through said inlet opening, generating transmembrane pressure, thereby creating a flux across said membrane into said permeate outlet opening and causing said monomer(s) graft polymerize in the presence of said free radical initiator onto one face of said composite membrane.
    Type: Application
    Filed: January 28, 2010
    Publication date: February 9, 2012
Applicant: BEN-GURION UNIVERSITY OF THE NEGEV RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY
Inventors: Viatcheslav Freger, Sophia Belfer, Roy Berenstein
  • Patent number: 7677398
Abstract: The invention provides a process for improving the antifouling properties and for increasing the selectivity of commercial composite polyamide nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis (RO) membranes comprising circulating a low concentration of water soluble monomers and an initiating redox couple in an aqueous solvent, without transverse pressure over the surface of the membrane thereby effecting a free-radical graft polymerization on the surface of the membrane.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 4, 2005
Date of Patent: March 16, 2010
Assignee: Ben Gurion University of the Negev Research and Development Authority
Inventors: Sophia Belfer, Rosalia Fainstein, Luba Kesselman, Charles Linder
