  • Patent number: 4617328
Abstract: Compounds having the formula ##STR1## in which Y is hydrogen, halogen, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently hydrogen or methyl; and n is 1 or 2, are effective biocides or biostats for protection of plastic, polymeric or cellulosic materials against attack by microorganisms.

Date of Patent: October 14, 1986
    Assignee: Stauffer Chemical Company
    Inventor: Sophia Y. Liu
  • Patent number: 4394330
Abstract: Flame retardant phosphonate derivatives of polyalkylene polyamines are prepared having the structural formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.5 can be the same or different substituted or nonsubstituted lower alkylene groups of about 2-10 carbons, or aryl groups of about 6-14 carbons; and R.sup.5 can also be haloalkyl of about 1-10 carbons;R.sup.3 can be a lower alkylene radical of about 1-10 carbons;R.sup.4 can be an alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or aryl group of about 1-20 carbons;m is a number from 0 to 2;n is a number from 0 to 2;y is a number from 0 to 10; andx can be the same as the (R.sup.5 OH) group or the ##STR2## The preparation involves the condensation of a polyalkylene-polyamine with an aldehyde or ketone and a phosphonate or a phosphite. The condensation product is then reacted with an epoxide to yield the phosphonate derivatives of polyalkylene-polyamines.

  • Patent number: 4126650
Abstract: Mono-alkyl acid phosphates having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is straight or branched alkyl having from 1 to about 25 carbon atoms, are prepared by reacting alcohol with P.sub.2 O.sub.5. The process involves suspension of P.sub.2 O.sub.5 in a heel of product comprised of a mixture of mono-alkyl acid phosphate, di-alkyl acid phosphate and free H.sub.3 PO.sub.4. Alcohol is added to the heel last, followed by mixing, and then addition of water. A mixture of mono- and dialkyl acid phosphate is obtained with a mono-content of over about 70 percent by weight.
