  • Patent number: 8791053
Abstract: The invention relates to a spatially encoded polymer matrix in the form of a bead or a granule for combinatorial solid phase synthesis, assaying, functional proteomics and diagnostic use. Compositions of such beads or granules are also provided. Each beaded polymer matrix of the composition comprises a plurality of spatially immobilized particles. The spatial immobilization of the particles confers on each beaded polymer matrix a “fingerprint” which enables identification of unique beads in a population of beads. The unique identification of individual beads makes it possible to perform combinatorial chemistry strategies while logging individual chemical transformation. Also provided are methods for detection of relative positions in space of particles, methods for generating matrices, methods for distance matrix determination, methods for identifying individual matrices and devices for recording and storing images of matrices.

  • Publication number: 20120132572
Abstract: The present application discloses spherical polymer bead comprising embedded therein an ultrasonic identification chip, said chip comprising one or more resonator cavities, the dimensions of each of the one or more resonator cavities giving rise to an ultrasonic resonance frequency of 20 kHz or more. The application also discloses a bead sorting apparatus equipped with at least one ultrasonic transmitter and at least one ultrasonic receiver, and a method of measuring the ultrasonic code of an ultrasonic encoded bead using the bead sorting apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20090032592
Abstract: The present application discloses a composition comprising a plurality of spherical beads, wherein a radiofrequency chip operating at a frequency of in the range of 2.2-2.7 GHz is embedded within each of said beads and wherein essentially each of said beads is individually identifiable on the basis of radiofrequency identification. Alternatives utilizing a ultrasonic identification chip are also disclosed. The beads are preferably made of polymeric material and can for example be used for the synthesis of e.g. solid-phase chemical libraries. Preferred materials include some that minimise interference in biochemical assays (fouling). The invention also relates to batch and continuous methods of producing such compositions, including emulsion-polymerisation methods. In a further aspect, the present invention relates to an apparatus for analysing radiofrequency-encoded beads.

  • Publication number: 20040086660
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of providing a solid substrate for immobilizing chemical compounds particular biomolecules. The method comprises the steps of providing a basis substrate, and treating the surface of the basis substrate with a monomer gas in a plasma generated by a power source selected from the group consisting of multiple phase AC supply and multiple DC supply, wherein the intensity of said plasma being at the most 5.0 W/I, such as at the most 3.0 W/I, and said monomer gas comprising one or more types of monomers which is plasma polymerized onto the surface to thereby provide the surface of the solid substrate with chemically reactive groups. The invention also relates to a substrate obtainable by the method, and a process for immobilizing a chemical compound to a surface of such solid substrate. The method is relatively simple and economically feasibly, and the substrate has a high quality and a high concentration of functionalities.
