Patent number: 11596896Abstract: An exhaust gas cleaning system comprises a first sub system including a scrubber unit comprising a scrubber arranged to wash the exhaust gas with a scrubber fluid, and a centrifugal separator arranged in communication with the scrubber unit for receiving the scrubber fluid after washing and separate it into a first and a second fraction, which second fraction is more polluted than the first fraction. The exhaust gas cleaning system further comprises a second sub system including a membrane filter arranged in communication with the centrifugal separator for receiving the first fraction output from the centrifugal separator and separating it into a third and a fourth fraction, which fourth fraction is more polluted than the third fraction. A method for cleaning exhaust gas onboard a ship involves cleaning an exhaust gas onboard a ship.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2019Date of Patent: March 7, 2023Assignee: ALFA LAVAL CORPORATE ABInventors: Sören Mölgaard, Casper Leemreize

Publication number: 20220364487Abstract: An exhaust gas cleaning system includes a particle filter device comprising a casing, plural hollow ceramic filter rods arranged at least partly inside a gas passage of the casing, and a gas inlet and gas outlet. The particle filter device guides exhaust gas from the gas inlet, through the gas passage and to the gas outlet. The particle filter device further comprises a perforated plate extending at least partly along the filter rods and partly blocking an exhaust gas flow path from the gas inlet to the gas passage. The perforated plate defines openings allowing exhaust gas to flow into the gas passage. The filter rods are gas permeable to allow exhaust gas to penetrate, during filtration, a respective wall of the filter rods and flow into the filter rods. A respective open upper end of the filter rods communicates with the gas outlet so exhaust gas leaves the casing.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2022Publication date: November 17, 2022Applicant: ALFA LAVAL CORPORATE ABInventors: Søren MØLGAARD, Nick HØY HANSEN, Ruddi KRUSE MORTENSEN

Patent number: 10533473Abstract: A system for treating engine exhaust gas, which engine exhaust gas has a temperature of between T1 and T2, comprises a SCR reactor for converting NOx in a medium containing the engine exhaust gas into N2 and H2O. The SCR reactor has an inlet for receiving the medium and an outlet for outputting the NOx reduced medium. A first boiler unit has an outlet for outputting boiler exhaust gas (temperature greater than T3, T3>T1) from the first boiler unit. A mixing unit mixes the engine exhaust gas with the boiler exhaust gas to produce the medium. The mixing unit has a first inlet communicating with the engine for receiving the engine exhaust gas, a second inlet communicating with the outlet of the first boiler unit for receiving the boiler exhaust gas and an outlet for outputting the medium. The mixing unit outlet communicates with the inlet of the SCR reactor.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2015Date of Patent: January 14, 2020Assignee: ALFA LAVAL CORPORATE ABInventors: Søren Mølgaard, Kenneth Christensen

Patent number: 9982582Abstract: A cleaning system for reducing SOx and particulate matter in exhaust gases from a marine combustion engine, burner or boiler. The cleaning system comprises first and second scrubber process loops having first and second scrubber, respectively, and first and second water circulation tanks, respectively. Water from the first tank is evaporated to water vapor inside the first scrubber by contact with the exhaust gases, whereby the water vapor and the exhaust gases form humid exhaust gases. The humid exhaust gases are transferred to the second scrubber, wherein water from the second tank condensates the water vapor in the humid exhaust gases. A reflux of water from the second scrubber process loop to the first scrubber process loop is provided. At least 60% and more preferred at least 90% of a total amount of alkaline agent supplied to the cleaning system is supplied to the second scrubber process loop.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2014Date of Patent: May 29, 2018Assignee: ALFA LAVAL CORPORATE ABInventors: Soren Molgaard, Jens Peter Hansen

Patent number: 9844752Abstract: A system, a use of such a system and a multi system for cleaning exhaust gas from a combustion engine. The system comprises a first exhaust gas scrubber to communicate with a scrubber water circulation tank. A first outlet of the first exhaust gas scrubber is connectable to a first inlet of the scrubber water circulation tank, and a first inlet of the first exhaust gas scrubber is connectable to a first outlet of the scrubber water circulation tank, to enable circulation of scrubber water between the scrubber water circulation tank and the first exhaust gas scrubber. An air supply device feeds air into the first exhaust gas scrubber to aerate the scrubber water during its passage through the first exhaust gas scrubber. Accordingly, a second inlet of the first exhaust gas scrubber is arranged to be connected to an outlet of the air supply device.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2013Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignee: ALFA LAVAL CORPORATE ABInventor: Soren Molgaard
