  • Publication number: 20170118242
Abstract: A denial-of-service protection system may include a memory operable to store a behavior model and a processor communicatively coupled to the memory. The processor is capable of detecting a potential attack on the system, and receiving a first request from an endpoint. In response to receiving the first request from the endpoint, the processor may communicate an error to the endpoint. The processor may also receive a second request, from the endpoint and determine whether the second request from the endpoint deviates from the behavior model. If the second request from the endpoint deviates from the behavior model, the processor may deny traffic from the endpoint. If the second request from the endpoint does not deviate from the behavior model, then the processor may allow traffic from the endpoint.

  • Publication number: 20140089468
Abstract: Embodiments herein include a method performed by an intermediate proxy node via which client devices request data resources from a data resource server. The data resources are organized into different data resource collections. The method includes receiving a request for a subset of a data resource collection and, responsive to receiving such a request, determining that the collection is not stored in a request-agnostic cache maintained by the proxy node. Responsive to this determination, the method further entails retrieving the collection from the data resource server. The method then includes extracting the requested subset from the retrieved data resource collection and selectively returning that subset as a response to the request. Finally, the method entails storing the data resource collection in the request-agnostic cache for serving other requests for data resources in the data resource collection, including a request for a different subset of the data resource collection.

  • Patent number: 8627387
Abstract: Logical content is defined by start/end times into a VoD media offering. The calculation of byte-range markers corresponding to the start/end times is distributed among the STBs to first request the particular logical content. Upon receiving an initial request for a logical content offering, an IPTV AS returns a VoD media file URL, start/end times, and null values of byte-range markers corresponding to the start/end times. In response to the null values, the initially-requesting STB downloads the entire VoD media file from a Download Media Server, and calculates the byte-range markers by comparing the start/end times to timestamps in non-encrypted headers in the VoD media file. The non-null byte-range markers are transmitted back to the IPTV AS, which provides them to STBs subsequently requesting the same logical content. The subsequently-requesting STBs may download only the logical content by providing the non-null byte-range markers to the Download Media Server.

  • Patent number: 8620917
Abstract: An application server includes a Semantic Analysis Core Service (SACS) function that communicates with a Semantic Analysis Client (SAC) in a Set Top Box (STB). The SACS groups programs available for rendering to a subscriber into program clusters. The SACS generates the program clusters based on a determined semantic similarity between the programs, and on parameters that indicate a subscriber's preference for certain program content. The program that are semantically similar to existing clusters within a predetermined viewing window are provided to the STB and output to the subscriber on a display as a program preference list or channel line-up. The STB also monitors the subscriber's interaction with the programs and calculates a preference score for each program indicating the subscriber's continuing, or waning, interest in a given program. The preference score is used to update the score of the program cluster to which the program belongs.
