Abstract: A software and/or hardware facility for filtering email data. The facility receives an indication of an SMTP event associated with an email and processes a script corresponding to the SMTP event. The script is comprised of a language for processing emails and may include one or more filters. If the script includes one or more filters, the facility executes the one or more filters and takes action on the associated email in accordance with the executed one or more filters. The action taken by the facility includes configuring the email system to affect not only the associated email but other emails.
