Abstract: The invention relates to a method for improving the quality of service for data traffic in a mobile communication system, which uses GPRS (General Packet Radio System). The invention may also be used in other types of data networks, using packet switched traffic, e.g. the next generation mobile telecommunication system UMTS. The improvement of the quality of service is attained by defining a number of operator specific parameters, which give better possilibity to monitor and control of the quality of service within an area or for a given user. These parameters are then used by the operator in order to give the user better service. Using this invention the operator may in a better way attain the promised quality of service, both on user and area basis.

Abstract: A mobile telecommunication system in which a plurality of different services can be used, and a method for the location management of mobile stations in a network which uses the mobile system. An efficient location management is achieved for the different services using location management strategies which are independent of each other, instead of associating the location management strategy to the carrier. A location management strategy includes a plurality of location management procedures which have been selected to adapt and optimize the strategy of a specific service, and which procedures that shall be used for the location management are decided by which service the user for the time being wants to utilize, or to which type of subscription the user subscribes.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method at a cellular radio communications system which makes possible that the probability of congestion for multislot mobiles in said system is reduced. In the future, the GSM-system will offer high speed data services, at which one of these is HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data). The HSCSD-service includes two services called “fixed service” and “flexible service”. At the first mentioned service, the mobile is allocated a fixed number of time slots which shall be allocated during the whole call, whereas at the last mentioned service the number of allocated time slots can vary during the course of the call. The mobile stations of today with their simplex filters can perform only one thing at a time, i.e. either transmit, measure or receive signals. It therefore is important to have possibility to allocate consecutive time slots for multislot mobiles.

One of a set of mobile stations included in a cellular mobile telephone system is switched between a first mode in a first state, here called Ready State, respective to a second state, here called Standby State, depending on a time parameter which indicates a time when the mobile station shall remain in the first state, to switch to the second state afterward. The value of the time parameter is set currently depending on the current speed of the mobile station through the cell network of the mobile telephone system.
