  • Publication number: 20230347132
Abstract: Devices, system, and methods are provided based on a technique for purging a blood pump. The technique may include providing a blood pump having an impeller and providing a fluid comprising a bicarbonate. The technique may include flowing the fluid through a first gap between a bearing and an outer surface of a rotatable shaft coupled to the impeller, the bearing and gap being disposed within a lumen of a tubular member and depending on the flow rate of the fluid and the speed of the impeller, the fluid may flow through the first gap and into a second gap between the bearing and a surface of the impeller facing the bearing. The bicarbonate reduces denaturation and adsorption of any blood proteins in the gap(s).

  • Publication number: 20230134031
Abstract: A method for controlled purging of a blood pump and a blood pump assembly for implementing the method are provided. The blood pump is in fluid communication with a purging device. The purging device comprises a purge reservoir and a supplemental reservoir configured to be fluidically connected to the blood pump. The purge reservoir is configured to receive a purge fluid and the supplemental reservoir configured to receive a supplemental purge fluid. At least a portion of the blood pump is inserted into a patient and operated. A flow of the purge fluid is provided from the purge reservoir to the blood pump. A purge flow parameter at the blood pump is measured using a measuring device and when it is determined by a controller that the purge flow parameter meets a predetermined threshold, a remediation protocol is identified.

  • Publication number: 20210339003
Abstract: A method of operating a blood pump that is purged with a purge solution that contains a pH controlling and buffering agent combined with aqueous dextrose and a reduced amount of heparin or no heparin. The blood pump has a gap between a shaft and housing through which the purge solution flows. In operation, the purge solution exits the housing and is discharged into the patient. The purge solution is therefore required to perform lubricating and heat transfer functions in the pump yet be biocompatible with the patient.

  • Publication number: 20210213274
Abstract: A blood pump with a stator and rotor wherein the rotor is assembled by bonding the stator components with epoxy. The bonding surfaces of the rotor components are primed with a silane-based primer to improve adhesion between the primer and the rotor components by rendering such surfaces hydrophobic. A bonding surface of one of the stator yoke or the stator sleeve, or both, is treated with a primer that improves wettability of the bonding surface and improves bonding of the epoxy to the binding surface. The device has a bonding surface adhered to epoxy in which a primer was applied on such bonding surface prior to introducing epoxy onto the bonding surface. In addition to improved bond strength, hydrophobic surface would control moister ingress.

  • Publication number: 20200405930
Abstract: An optical sensor assembly for use in a blood pump assembly comprising a visor affixed to a pump housing of the blood pump assembly. A support jacket is in contact with an inner surface of the visor, and defines a cavity in which an optical sensor is disposed. A silicone composition is introduced into the cavity, where it cures. The silicone composition within the cavity protects the optical sensor, and the support jacket prevents the overflowing of the silicone composition and contamination of the visor. The silicone composition comprises a silicone component and a plasticizer with a silicone to plasticizer ratio selected to provide one or more of the desired rigidity, tackiness, adhesion strength, viscosity, shelf life, pot life, and curing properties. The silicone composition may comprise more than one silicone component. A method of manufacturing the optical sensor assembly and the silicone composition.
