Abstract: This disclosure relates generally to data mining, and more particularly to a system and method for performing descriptive analysis in data mining. In one embodiment, a method is provided for performing a descriptive analysis in data mining. The method comprises receiving one or more data files comprising a plurality of data variables from one or more data sources, determining a set of data variables from the plurality of data variables based on their relevance to the descriptive analysis, identifying at least one of a set of continuous data variables and a set of categorical data variables from the set of data variables, and performing a first descriptive analysis on the set of continuous data variables and a second descriptive analysis on the set of categorical data variables.
