Publication number: 20190384873Abstract: The present system and method allow non-intrusive estimation of a number of electronic thermostats in an area, where each electronic thermostat controls at least one thermal load. The system comprises a power sampler, an analog/digital converter and a processing unit. The power sampler collects, at one electric entry for the area, a finite sequence of samples of aggregated electric power consumed by the area. The analog/digital converter converts the samples of aggregated electric power into discrete-time samples. The processing unit converts the finite sequence of discrete-time samples of aggregated electric power into a discrete-frequency representation using a Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) to identify dominant frequency components and analyze the dominant frequency components to estimate a commutating frequency of the electronic thermostats.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 14, 2019Publication date: December 19, 2019Applicants: 3R VALO, LIMITED PARTNERSHIP, HYDRO QUEBECInventors: NILSON FERNANDO HENAO, KODJO MAWUPE AGBOSSOU, SOUSSO KELOUWANI, MICHAEL FOURNIER

Patent number: 9246844Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method for controlling the operation of a service in a client device. The invention uses an existing protocol which is used for communications between an application resident in the device and a remote server to convey information about the service to the application. The information may be relevant to a service specific function, such as configuration or provisioning, or an activation or de-activation instruction, for example. The application receives the service related information, processes the information and then provides the information to the service via a notification channel. The service related information may be incorporated into a message sent from the remote server to the client device by using an element of the protocol, for example, by appending a text string to a header.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2015Date of Patent: January 26, 2016Assignee: Unwired Planet, LLCInventors: Michel Levesque, Jon Witort, Sousso Kelouwani

Patent number: 8539221Abstract: The present relates to a method and a system for identifying an application type from encrypted traffic transported over an IP network. The method and system extract at least a portion of IP flow parameters from the encrypted traffic using at least one of specific target encryption types. Then, the method and system transmit the extracted IP flow parameters to a learning-based classification engine. The learning-based classification engine has been trained with unencrypted traffic. Then, the method and system infer at least one corresponding application type for the extracted IP flow parameters.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2010Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Assignee: Guavus, Inc.Inventors: Marc Tremblay, Sousso Kelouwani, Eric Melin
