    Abstract: The unintended retraction of extruded insulation from a conductor causes reliability and safety concerns. A variety of insulation lock mechanisms are designed to prevent the insulation layer of an insulated lead from retracting and exposing uninsulated portions of the conductor. The insulation lock mechanism can be included between the conductor and the insulation layer, or included in a connector used to provide an electrical connection between an internal motor lead and an insulated lead of a motor lead cable. Within the connector, the insulation lock mechanism can be included between the insulation layer and a terminal that electrically connects the motor lead to the insulated lead.

    Abstract: An electric submersible pumping system is configured to produce fluids from a well. The submersible pumping system includes a motor drive, an electric motor driven by the motor drive, a sensor module and a power cable. An upper end of the power cable is connected to the motor drive. The electric submersible pumping system further includes a pothead connected to the motor and a motor lead extension, where an upper end of the motor lead extension is connected to the power cable and a lower end of the motor lead extension is connected to the motor through the pothead. The electric submersible pumping system includes a motor lead extension temperature sensor located in the pothead.

An insert sleeve surrounds the bearing sleeve. A carrier body surrounds the insert sleeve. A carrier anti-rotation ring on an outer diameter of the carrier body engages the bore of the stator. First and second seal rings are axially spaced apart from each other between an outer diameter of the insert sleeve and an inner diameter of the carrier body. A hole in the carrier body has an inner end at the inner diameter of the carrier body. An electrically conductive coil spring within the hole has an inner end protruding through the inner end of the hole into contact with the outer diameter of the insert sleeve, creating electrical continuity between the insert sleeve and the carrier body.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for connecting power cables to downhole equipment such as ESPs using side-exit (radial) connections. In one embodiment, a system includes an electric drive coupled by a power cable to an ESP. The electric drive is positioned at the surface of a well with the power cable coupled to it. The power cable extends into the well bore and is coupled to the downhole equipment which is positioned in the well bore. The power cable has a connector with a first set of radially oriented terminals (the terminals are perpendicular to the conductors of the power cable). These terminals engage a second set of terminals that are installed in the downhole equipment. The radial orientation of the terminals of the connector and downhole equipment allow the power cable to remain axially oriented, thereby facilitating engagement of the terminals and requiring less annular space in the well bore.
