  • Patent number: 5265985
Abstract: A polygonal lay down indexable insert having radial projection is described. The insert reduces the force required to machine by reducing the friction forces encountered in machining operations.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 7, 1992
Date of Patent: November 30, 1993
    Assignee: Valenite Inc.
Inventors: Sreedwaraka P. Boppana, John Patterson, Yefim Val
  • Patent number: 5230591
Abstract: A polygonal lay down indexable cutting insert for a centrally located island and light feed and light depth of cut applications. The insert has a variable land surface angle which is 14.degree. at each corner of the insert and merges into a 12.degree. as measured along the flanks of the insert. A second descending angle is 27.degree. along the flanks. The corners are radiused along the variable land surface and the descending angle surfaces to impart better strength and cutting for the insert. Moreover, the first variable descending angle is greater than the first variable descending angle along the flanks of the insert.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 10, 1992
Date of Patent: July 27, 1993
    Assignee: GTE Valenite Corporation
Inventors: Karl Katbi, Sreedwaraka P. Boppana, Brendan L. Brockett
  • Patent number: 5193947
Abstract: A high depth, low force, polygonal throw away indexable cutting insert to turn ductile materials like steel at low to high cutting speeds and medium to high ranges of feed and depth of cut.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 4, 1991
Date of Patent: March 16, 1993
    Assignee: GTE Valenite Corporation
Inventors: Thomas J. Bernadic, Karl Katbi, Sreedwaraka P. Boppana
