  • Patent number: 10289759
Abstract: The effect on battery capacity of an application can be tested on computing devices. A server controller can instruct the computing devices to install applications and simulate user interactions with the applications. The controller can store indications of battery usage during the time that the simulated user interactions with the application are performed on the computing device. When battery capacity of the computing device is below a lower threshold, the controller can connect the computing device to a power supply. When the battery capacity of the computing device is again above an upper threshold, the controller can disconnect the computing device from the power supply and being testing a new application on the computing device.

  • Patent number: 9952902
Abstract: An application can be tested to determine whether declared resources for the application are deemed to be required for the application. Instructions can be sent to an operating system to launch the application, to simulate user interactions with the application, and to generate a log of resource requests by the application during launch of the application and during the simulated user interactions with the application. For each of the declared resources, a determination can be made whether a sufficient number of resource requests for the resource is in the log. If there are enough instances of resource requests for the resource in the log, the resource can be included in a list of actual resources for the application.

  • Patent number: 9501390
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for enhancing automated testing for mobile applications by using an automated testing set. An automated testing pattern set may include multiple patterns that have been determined to yield accurate results in testing applications within a particular application category. The automated testing pattern set may be created for each application category by applying automated random pattern generator tests to applications within the same application category and verifying the accuracy of the random patterns produced by the random pattern generator tests by comparing the results from manual testing. The automated testing pattern set is then created based on patterns ranked according to an assigned accuracy score.

  • Patent number: 9111219
Abstract: Systems and associated processes are disclosed for generating recommendations for users based on the computing device likely to be utilized by the user to execute an application, among other things. These systems and processes are described in the context of an interactive computing system that enables users to download applications for mobile devices or for other computing devices. The performance of applications running on the user's computing device can be monitored with the performance data being collected and provided to the interactive computing system. The interactive computing system can include a recommendation system or service that processes the performance data and using the performance data, among possibly other data, the recommendation system can recommend alternative applications to the user for download.

  • Patent number: 8412896
Abstract: A method and system for backing up and restoring data in a file system that includes junctions is provided. In a backup operation, a junction is encoded as a symbolic link (“symlink”) directive, and sent with a sequential image data stream in the backup operation and written to a tape or disk. In a restore operation, when the encoded symlink directive is encountered after data is read from the tape, the symlink is decoded by an administrator to obtain the embedded junction information contained in the symlink directive. The administrator can then recreate the junction using the information. The junction information is thereby transmitted as part of the backup and restore operation while remaining transparent to third party software performing the backup and restore processes.

  • Patent number: 7797284
Abstract: A technique provides a dedicated software thread for communicating backup history to clients of a storage system during backup operations. Illustratively, an operating system of the storage system may execute one or more “session” (e.g., backup) threads and a “worker” (e.g., backup history) thread. In particular, the one or more session threads are each configured to backup stored data for a corresponding client to a backup storage device and to generate backup history of data backed up to the backup storage device. Also, the worker thread is configured to obtain the backup history from the one or more session threads, and transmit the backup history to the corresponding client of each of the one or more session threads. In this manner, the worker thread may wait for a response from the corresponding clients, while the one or more corresponding session threads continue to backup the stored data and generate backup history.

  • Patent number: 7681069
Abstract: In one embodiment, a data corruption checker is integrated into the data backup operation. In one embodiment, the data corruption checker can skip over minor corruptions and back up the non-corrupt files, or can abort the backup and locate a major corruption. In one embodiment, the present invention includes receiving a backup command at a storage server, the backup command requesting that the storage server perform a backup operation on a storage component, scanning a set of inodes associated with the storage component to determine a subset of inodes corresponding to files to be backed up, and, as part of the scanning, identifying one or more corrupted files.
