Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for streaming during unavailability of a content server. Upon determining that there are conditions indicating buffering issues during delivery of a media asset, a server determines a first group of devices suitable for receiving the media asset from the server and sharing the media asset on a peer-to-peer network. Then, the server determines a second group of devices suitable for receiving the media asset on a peer-to-peer network from a first group device. The server then determines groupings within which to share and receive the media asset. Next, the server transmits instructions to the devices in the first group to maintain in buffer and share certain portions of the media asset with the second group devices within their grouping. Finally, the server updates information detailing the media asset portions the devices are maintaining in buffer and sharing.

Availability data indicating when a content series will become unavailable is received and compared to user progression habits. If the content series will become unavailable before the user will complete it, a watch schedule may be offered to the user. If the user subsequently falls behind on this watch schedule, a compressed version of the content series may be offered to the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods for searching, identifying, scoring, and providing access to companion media assets for a primary media asset are disclosed. In response to a request for companion content, metadata within a predefined time period of a play position when the request was made, is downloaded. A dynamic search template that contains search parameters based on the downloaded metadata is generated. In response to the search conducted using the search template, a plurality of companion media assets are identified and then verified. A trust score for the companion media asset is accessed. The trust score may be analyzed and modified based on its contextual relationship to the play position of the primary media asset. If the trust score is within a rating range, then a link to access the companion media asset, or a specific segment or play position within the companion media asset, is provided.

A media stream playing on a device that is within a threshold distance of the AR device is detected. The source of the media stream is identified. The AR device queries the source of the media stream for a consumption option. An AR overlay is generated and comprises selectable UI elements corresponding to the consumption options. In response to receiving an input at a UI element, the AR overlay is generated based on the consumption option.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for determining transition scenes in content and playing back transition scenes as overlays over one or more adjacent scenes. Transition scenes (also referred to as “pause scenes”) are slow-moving scenes, with minimal activity or characters, usually surrounded by two faster paced scenes, that may bore certain viewers such as children or mobile device users. The system may help the content move faster, while ensuring the transition scenes are not skipped. The system may receive content with three sequential scenes A, B, and C, and determine scene B is a transition scene between scene A and scene C. Scene B may be generated as an overlay to one of (or parts of both) scene A and scene C so that all three scenes are viewed but the runtime is shorter, and the content's pace is maintained. The system may also determine which scene to overlay, and determine a screen position for the overlay so as not to, e.g., obscure any characters or activity in the content.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for retrieving an information file from a user profile about a scheduled trip, where access to content may be restricted and identifying, based on the consumption pattern, a first progression point before the scheduled start time and a second progression point after the scheduled end time of the scheduled trip. Based on the difference between the first and second progression points, the media guidance application causes to be stored the respective media assets on a consumption device. Then before departing for the scheduled trip, the media guidance application confirms the first progression points against the current progression point and causes to adjust the stored media assets based on a difference between the current progression point and the first progression point.

In one example, an interruption of presentation of a segment of content on a computing device is detected. An estimated recovery time is determined for the interruption. Based at least in part on the estimated recovery time, a determination is made as to whether to skip the segment or wait to resume presentation of the video segment after the interruption subsides. Based on a result of the determining whether to skip or wait, an instruction to wait or an instruction to skip the segment is generated for presentation via the computing device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for customizing a profile page. A first user profile and a second user profile are accessed by a computing device. First and second pluralities of content items associated with the first and second user are identified. Based on the first and second user profiles, first and second subsets of content items of the first and second plurality of content items are selected. For each content item of the first subset of content items, an image associated with the content item is identified. For each content item of the second subset of content items, an image associated with the content item is identified. Based on the identified images, first and second image collages are generated for the first and second user profiles. The first and second image collages and first and second indicators corresponding to the first and second user profiles are generated for display.

If a preview image corresponding to an advanced play position, relative to a current play position, provides a spoiler, an alternative preview image is generated for display. The alternative image may be a modified version of the original image in which at least a portion is removed or masked, or a replacement image, e.g., an image from another play position, a promotional image, or an indication that the preview image is not displayed. A different alternative image or modification may be used when a subsequent play position has been reached if the unmodified preview image contains a different spoiler, and/or a previous modification is no longer required, e.g., if, at the subsequent play position, the original image is no longer a spoiler, the original image may be used as a preview image.

Responsive to the determination that at least one of the plurality of segments contains spoiler information, a position of the at least one segment within the trailer is rearranged to generate a rearranged order of the plurality of segments, and the trailer in the rearranged order is generated for display.

In one example, an interruption of presentation of a segment of content on a computing device is detected. An estimated recovery time is determined for the interruption.
