  • Patent number: 7590100
Abstract: A method (500) is provided for dynamic packet polling during a power save mode. The method can include polling (504) an access point (104) for packets at a first rate on at least one access category, determining (506) a polling time-out as a function of a packet priority, and possibly changing the rate to a second rate in view of a second packet priority. The polling time-out can correspond to a duration interval of the polling for increasing an efficiency of the power save mode. The method can include establishing a poll timeout and an overall poll timeout as a function of each access category. The function can include mapping a packet priority to a response time for setting a timeout. In one aspect, the polling can be combined into a single polling stream for multiple access categories.

  • Publication number: 20070149176
Abstract: A system (100) and method (400) is provided for email notification for use with a mobile device roaming in a loosely coupled network. The method can include receiving (402) a voice mail on a first network, generating (404) a voice mail indication, and sending (416) the voice mail indication through the second network to a mobile device. The voice mail indication can include encrypted information containing a phone number, an IMEI, or an IP address of the mobile device to properly route the message. The voice mail indication can include a sequence number, timestamp, or token to determine if a voice mail is stale. The method can include emailing (418) the voice mail indication to the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20070147317
Abstract: A system (100) and method (700) is provided for extending a standby battery life of a WLAN station (102) within a WLAN. The method can include creating an extended service area containing at least two access points (APs) (104/105), monitoring beacon frames and conducting neighbor AP scans for identifying the types of available network service areas, recognizing at least one service area within the extended service area, and connecting the WLAN station to the service area (103) using an AP network type, where the AP network type selection can be based on the traffic mode.

  • Publication number: 20070082660
Abstract: The invention concerns a method (300) and communication device (100) for network-aware applications. The method can include the steps of—in the communications device—switching (314) to a communications network (110, 120, 130), determining (316) an identity of the communications network and in response to determining the identity of the communications network, altering (320) one or more applications (200) in the communications device such that the altered applications correspond to the communications network.

  • Publication number: 20070049252
Abstract: A method and a machine readable storage for handling failures during security exchanges between a station (125) having a wireless network adapter (130) and a first access point (110) of a wireless local area network (WLAN) (105). As part of a WLAN association process, the method can include transmitting from the station to the first access point a message including a station identifier (170). A first protocol exchange timer (180) also can be started. Responsive to a timeout of the first protocol exchange timer, an association retry counter can be incremented. The WLAN association process can be restarted if the association retry counter is not greater than a retry counter threshold. If the association retry counter is greater than the retry counter threshold, the wireless network adapter can be commanded to enter sleep mode.

  • Publication number: 20050239501
Abstract: Fixed network equipment associated with a given private branch exchange provides, and a mobile communication device receives, information that corresponds to compatible interoperation with that private branch exchange, including, for example, a plurality of identifiers including a logical identifier that corresponds to compatible interaction with the private branch exchange. Thereafter, when seeking facilitation of services via that private branch exchange, the mobile communication device can use that logical identifier.
